Never tried the tool however marked with "sharpie" seal location before removing original seal then installed new seal using a cup and mallet making sure to seat it I believe 6mm deeper into the bore from original position.

Suggestion

My take on it is you DO NOT want to set the seal back in the same place as before because the old seal may have put a grove in the crank shaft.

I was using CurilT on the outside, so I am thinking this might have been the cause.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I bought the RMS tool to install the seal, but when I got to install the tool to the crankshaft i notice that the flywheel bolts will not fit into the tools holes, which menas that the outer part of the tool (the one pushing the seal in) will not move enough to push the seal in. Is the tool supposed to come with special bolts? If not, which bolts should I get? Thanks in advance....

POST 2 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

morning bump. Anyone, Please?

POST 3Original post

Take the flywheel bolt to a hardware shop and fine one the same thread (should be 10M X 1) that head will fit into the recess. Rick 99 996C4 87 944S

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

ok, I finally found the bolts that will work with the tool, but then...more problems. I tried to install the seal using the tool, but it would not go in straight. I tried a couple of times, and the top part would always be more into the bore than the lower part. So, I decided to start fitting the seal by hand and with the help of a rubber mallet. It went in pretty straight, and then I finish it up with the tool. I let the seal car alone during the night and, for my surprise, when I came back to continue the job, the seal had pop out almost completely. It really took some hard hitting to get it in, so i really dont get how it pop out by itself. I was using CurilT on the outside, so I am thinking this might have been the cause. i will head back to the dealer tomorrow to get a new seal and fit it dry to see how it goes. Any suggestion/tip on how to go about this?? Thanks

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Mother, My old one was flush to the case so this would mean that the seal will seat at least 6mm into the case, right? Thanks

POST 7Original post

Sounds good... My take on it is you DO NOT want to set the seal back in the same place as before because the old seal may have put a grove in the crank shaft.
