Suggestion · Original poster

My friend just offered the use of his lift for a month or two, so I am going to attempt pulling the errant cracked head on the 1-3 side and replace it in situ.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

5 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi all, It's been a while since I've been over here on the 996 board as my 2000 C4 Cab has been in mothballs since it developed an intermix problem. Yes, I flushed it thoroughly before its retirement last year... My friend just offered the use of his lift for a month or two, so I am going to attempt pulling the errant cracked head on the 1-3 side and replace it in situ. Has anyone done this? My Porsche mechanic buddy says its not tough and makes sense in my case. Looking for any tips or gotchas if you are aware of them. Thanks in advance! Cheers, TomF

POST 2Original post

It is physically possible to do this, but I think it is faster and easier to drop the engine/trans to do it. It is just to tight to rach so many things with the engine in the car. If you have a lift you should be able to drop the engine/trans in 3-4 hours. I have done this on jack stands in my driveway more than one. By the way I have a brand new 1-3 head if you are interested.

POST 3Original post

By the way I fixed the intermix, cracked 1-3 head on my 2000 C4 back in 2008/2009. If you need info, etc. let me know. Depending on the crack there are several places that fix them.

POST 4Original post

Literally 3 bolts hold the engine and trans into the car. Unplug the shifter cables, wiring harness, fuel line, a/c compressor and coolant lines. Can do on jack stands and use a motorcycle jack to lower the engine/trans and pull from under the car. A lift would make it even easier.

POST 5Original post

How do you know that its the 1-3 head at this point? I'd not even think about just doing one head, pull the engine, and pull the pair. Have both of them pressure tested (hot) and repaired accordingly.
