I have read that this "clunk" can be a mixture of different things and the best thing to do is make sure everything is tight then start with replacing the sway bar bushings and drop links and go from there.

If I'm reading it correctly it sounds like Bilstein changed their design to a kinked drop link and you can use the 993 front drop links as a replacement.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
11 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

Hey guys! So I'm a brand new (used) porsche owner! I am no mechanic and am still learning so I apologize now for all the stupid things I'm probably about to say!!
I picked up a 2001 911 C4 that needed a little bit of work. It has about 140,000 kms on it (yup I'm in Canada) It seems to have a very noticeable "clunk" in the front end and from what I have read it seems very common on the 996. I have read that this "clunk" can be a mixture of different things and the best thing to do is make sure everything is tight then start with replacing the sway bar bushings and drop links and go from there. Next would be the lower control arms (coffins). I did some inspection and found one of my drop links was blown out so I am hoping that's it.
The previous owner had the Bilstein B16 (pss10) suspension put on and lowered. I ordered new drop links from Pelican but did not realise they would not be stock size because of the B16 suspension (again not a mechanic and fairly new to wrenching!)
I have been trying to track down proper sway bar links to replace it with and cannot seem to find anything anywhere. The one I pulled off is shorter and has "Bilstein 0048" printed on it. It also seems to be the "Meyle" brand but I cant find it online anywhere.
If I'm reading it correctly it sounds like Bilstein changed their design to a kinked drop link and you can use the 993 front drop links as a replacement.

I have also read that a lot of people have switched to the tarret adjustable drop links but unfortunately at $275 USD its just not in my budget at the moment.

Anyway, I'm hoping that someone with more knowledge then I might be able to point me in the right direction? I appreciate the help.

Could you tell me where you got them? I called Bilstein in Califoria today and the guy I talked to said he would need a bit of time to find them and he would email me when he had a part number for me. Never heard from him again!!

Check these out , they do various sizes , they are adjustable , you just need to buy a set in the adjustment range you need , you could roughly measure the distance between both points with the car sat on its wheel in a loaded position , this is a Uk company but maybe just search for adjustable drop links on eBay in US?
Yeah the guy I was talking to was working from home so I think they are probably running pretty bare bones right now. I understand but it's a bummer. I would really like to get my car back on the road
if anyone has a part number for the drop links that work with the B16 pss10 suspension it would be greatly appreciated.
So I got a hold of someone at Bilstein in California today. Figured I would post this up just incase someone down the road stumbles into this thread with the same problem as me.
B4-XB1Z051A00 is the part number Bilstein gave me.
Bilstein recommends getting them at either....
