Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

The B6 is called "heavy duty" The B8's they call "sport" or "sprint" and are designed to be used with shorter sport/lowering springs.

That being said, the coil overs are clearly in a different league (as they should be for 3-4x the price) - as far as adjust-ability and comfort goes.

Suspected cause
I had the b6s with the springs which is probably a little too stiff.

Suggestion
For the folks who are planning on putting lower height springs on thier cars, you really need to replace the struts with units designed for the the lower geometry.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I got a very slightly used set of KW V3's. Not "cheap" by any means but really nice and so easily adjustable - it really is another world. I had absolutely no problems with the Bilsteins but the oportunity to get into the KW's at a great price (compared to the $4k new) was too good to pass up.
The B4 is the stock strut. The B6 is called "heavy duty" The B8's they call "sport" or "sprint" and are designed to be used with shorter sport/lowering springs. They're very good - way better than stock (at least the ones I had which weren't leaking but must have been shot) and though they're stiffer, they were also way smoother...
guessing b8s are the sports which are usually set up with these springs which would mean the b6 is HD which is closer to stock but still a bit stiffer.
I believe the stock bilsteins are b4s?
25 to 30mm is what they state. Mine fell right in the middle at around 27 - 28 mm. BTW, They're sold! For cash to a local guy who ran out and picked them up
I just bought a set of B8s to pair with my existing stock shocks and H&R springs. Very excited to install. My stock shocks are not leaking, but very tired and make the car unstable on high speed sweepers.
I looked at coilovers as well, but couldn't justify the additional price because my car came with H&R springs already and a shop here actually had them in stock. I run KW V3 in my M3 and they are great. I have friends also running them that had leaks after several seasons of street driving so keep an eye on them especially if they are second hand. I haven't experienced anything after 20k km. Pricing them out for the 996, I was surprised to see that they were around the same as Ohlins R&T which seem to be the gold standard (M3 guys love them as well). I would love to hear your comparison on the V3s to the B8/H&R on your car after some miles.
I'm looking forward to installing my B8s next week and if I don't love them it is good to know the resale market is healthy enough that going the coilover route won't hurt the wallet too much!
I think you're going to like the B8's compared to the stock B4's (which are not designed to work with sport springs btw). That being said, the coil overs are clearly in a different league (as they should be for 3-4x the price) - as far as adjust-ability and comfort goes. Good luck
B8s are part of the Techart Suspension package, they are 33mm lower.
Ride is firm, but handling is outstanding.
Driving on the track occasionally, at high speeds they responsive and predictable, no surprises in or out of flat or elevated corners.
Correct
Eibach manufactures the sway bars and springs.
Bilsten B8s are the struts.
Techart offered suspension packages with and without the struts, $1300 (US) difference in price.
I was able to get a super deal right from Techart, even with the freight cost from Germany.
For the folks who are planning on putting lower height springs on thier cars, you really need to replace the struts with units designed for the the lower geometry.
