If anyone has some input on anything I am missing out on replacing while the engine/trans are out, this is what I am doing so far:

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
4 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

Hello All,
I recently purchased a '99 C2 with a bad gearbox. While I had the engine out I figured I would do some of the common maintenance that is now easily accessible. I am replacing the IMS and have a LN tool kit, but I would also like to replace the RMS while I have access. I have read that it is playing with fire to replace it without using the Porsche tool 9699 & 9699/2.
Does anyone have one that they would be willing to loan/rent? I am in Denver Colorado if anyone happens to have it close by, otherwise I would be happy to cover shipping.
If anyone has some input on anything I am missing out on replacing while the engine/trans are out, this is what I am doing so far:
New sachs clutch/pressure plate (flywheel appears good, is not bound up or moving excessively)
LN IMS retrofit kit
New RMS (assuming I can get the tool to get it in, current one does not appear to be leaking)
OAS (had a significant oil/coolant leak from this area)
New accessory belt and tensioners
New engine mounts
New spark plugs, air filter, oil filter & fuel filter.
New brake lines
Looks like replacing the case bolts behind the flywheel is recommended, so I will be ordering those. Anything else that would be recommended?
Thanks,
Chris
Just off the top of my head, get the updated clutch fork and throw-out bearing. Replace the clutch slave cylinder with a new one. Just the tensioner pulley? I would just replace them all. And do the oil filler pipe since it is much easier to do with engine out. And a comment, since you are so far in there, depending on miles on the car, but it seems a good time to just install a new dual mass flywheel. You may never have to do it again. Don't forget, you need new flywheel bolts since they are one-time use.
I read that someone was 3D printing an RMS installation tool. I'll see if I can find that thread.
ChrisMA (I think) was 3D printing the RMS seal tool and selling them for $30 a couple years ago - not sure of he's still around.
1 - It's AOS (I think the OAS was an intelligence service or something along those lines) - as long as the engine is out, you may want to do the U-AOS (Ultimate AOS) designed and marketed by PorscheTech3 right here on Rennlist.
2 - The only other thing I may recommend is depending on mileage and cam deviation, cam chain tensioner pads and cam chains...They's cheap and a real pain to do with the engine in the car - they cost big $ to have done by a shop...
