Few months ago I had to replace the voltage regulator (with warm engine voltage started to go below 12 on dashboard gauge); now it's ok, around 13.5 volts; after this the situation with radio became worse, so I understood it's voltage dependant: if voltage it's too high, radio shuts down; sometimes it doesn't work but if I switch on everything (high beams, etc) it starts.

These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I always had issues on my 1999 996 with PCM (1st gen) sound system: normally it doesn't work with cold engine then after some time starts to work. Anybody with this problem? At this point I plan to add an addition 12 volt regulator in the power lines of the head unit. Any thoughts / ideas?

POST 2Original post

Take it out and have it checked over by a competent radio or electronics repairer. Its a Becker unit so anywhere that has experience with Becker should be able to help. I'd do that before touching the car.
