I used walher temostat and pierburg pump from pelican - no issues so far - o'reilly also carries the Pentosin sf coolant at reasonable price

Do I need to disconnect every single water line and flush it out with the garden hose or is there a better and easier way?

When I had this done a few months ago, my indy insisted on using an OEM Porsche WP.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
14 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

I toasted my Water Pump a block from my house today...
I read the guides on how to take it out and was able to get it all apart this evening.
I found that the Bearing had a total failure! It has barely 2/3000 miles on it!
It was completely shot! The impeller got wobbly and broke off a few small chips and the pulley actual made a little contact with the housing?! Damn bearing is garbage!!!
What are you all using when its time to replace your water pumps?
I have seen the Factory pump at SunCoastParts (99610634054and99610601155) for $299 with the gasket.
And what looks like the same thing at Pelican Parts (996-106-011-56-M100) for $403 and no gasket, that would be (996 106 340 54) for $4.25.
Any suggestions or comments on either of these?
Also I am looking at changing out the Thermostat for the LN version (10-2200-060-M835) for $63 and the gasket (996-106-326-50-M17) for $2.75
Any suggestions on this upgrade?
When I had this done a few months ago, my indy insisted on using an OEM Porsche WP. The tank, cap, t-stat (indy nixed the low temp version), lines/hoses and serp belt were also done.
I second the reco f the OE pump, from either Sunset Porsche or Suncoast.
I recommend the low temp thermostat ONLY if you drive your car at least 30min/12 mile each time. Otherwise, the oil may not be up to normal temp to burn off any moisture in it.
OK thanks for supporting what I was gonna do... OEM pump it is!
I ordered a WP from Sun coast and a LN low temp thermostat, gasket and install tool from Pelican.
Hopeful everything will be here by the end of the week so I can put her back together this weekend!
So I'm planning on taking care of the water pump and the thermostat this weekend but I want to try to flush the whole system before I seal it back up. Is there a simple way to do this? Do I need to disconnect every single water line and flush it out with the garden hose or is there a better and easier way? I am concerned about the very small chips that came off of the water pump impeller that might be floating around the cooling system...
If you have compress air, check this out https://rennlist.com/forums/996-forum/737700-simple-3-step-complete-coolant-drain-updated-w-refill-procedure-water-pump-tips.html
Wow what a nicely written DIY article!!!
I need to get my hands on one of these vac systems... but my issue is that I want to BACK FLUSH the whole cooling system to make sure I have no left over debris floating around in there... can a very small impeller chip or two cause me any issue? I will take a few pictures of the impeller tonight and show you guys what I'm concerned about... I just figured that if some small chips are being forced into the system that they might get stuck into something critical or cause an obstruction someplace! :0
I see. I have no experience with back flushing but people suggest looking for the broken impeller pieces stuck at the thermostat. Of course those pieces could also be stuck somewhere else.
Here is a pic of my impeller... you can see that I'm missing a few small chips on the end of the vanes and one or two larger chips...
Should I be worried about them getting stuck and causing me problems later?
I'm going to change out the thermostat and check for any debris.
Should I try to reverse flush the system to make sure she is cleaned out?
Ok... here is what we have...
You can see the little pieces that are missing on the ends of the vanes...
How worried should I be about the little chips floating around my motor?
