Suggestion
I just had to replace all four of mine after running over a chunk of metal (8 and a half pounds) which had fallen from a truck.

I was really concerned about the tire install but the guy did a perfect job (mostly by hand and using the no-touch machine).
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Recently did the front end with new Bilsteins and tie rods. Replaced boots, bump stops and strut bearings. Whew...thought that was awesome. Next on the list was consideration of tire replacement, not due to wear, but age. Have (had) about 30,000 miles on my Michelin's, no visible wear, but they were about 4.5+ years old. I thought I'll try to get another 6 months. Well....
Last Friday driving to work picked up a huge carriage bolt in the left rear tire. Thump, thump, thump....drove home and it was flat pulling into the garage. What a disaster! Called the wife and got to work. We discussed it and thankfully she agreed...new tires all around. Called the tire shop and ordered new Michelin Pilot Sports, they would have them in in the morning. Saturday morning, jacked up car, removed and cleaned the wheels, piled them in the Mini and drove to the tire shop. I was really concerned about the tire install but the guy did a perfect job (mostly by hand and using the no-touch machine).
The real point of this story is - what a difference in ride! After 4.5 years those old tires got pretty dried up and hard. Tread was still visibly good but those tires were shot. I am very pleased with the new Michelin's and they look awesome on the car. Been under the weather a few days this week but cannot wait to get some quality cruise time in this weekend. It all ended up being good for my 996.
our cars are pretty old I am surprised I don't see more people update all their bushing they would get such a better driving experience. I had switch mine to solid bucking , it felt like a different car.
Rubber wears down over time, even though it is not visible, it doesn't do the job it used to do.
Yeah we just replaced ours that were 6 years old
I had no idea how bad they were until I drove it to work the next time. Thing sticks like glue in all the areas that I had gotten used to being able to kick the tail out a bit when the mood struck.
Definitely not letting them go that long again.
All the services my Boxster and Turbo have had the one thing that really makes a noticeable difference is a new set of tires.
I like to say that new tires makes the car feel new again, and that is not an exaggeration. The car becomes quiet again and the ride less harsh.
New tires really highlights how noisy and hard the old tires have become.
5 years is average lifespan for tires unless they sunbathe daily which will take ayear or more away.
Michelin's superior rubber compounds add about 15% so if your tires often age out before they wear out, that is a consideration. People usually consider initial cost instead of cost per mile/year.
I just had to replace all four of mine after running over a chunk of metal (8 and a half pounds) which had fallen from a truck. It took out the side walls of the passenger side front and rear. They were hankooks V12 and had 10000 miles on them aged 18 months. This time I am trying Bridgestone Potenza.. Just breaking them in as I type.
Excellently but I had to travel 20 miles for Hankooks and there was a firestone place only 1 mile from home. So this time I am trying Bridgestone Potenza. All the ballaballo about makes of tires when they only last less than 20000 is not worth the hazzle IMHO. Mine are all year round tires this time and good for 165 mph which I will not be doing. Maybe a 100 mph tops. Trackers will obviously have to go for the very best.
