Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.
Discussions that report identifying a cause

0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Leading evidence: 'cat as it was rattling' (1 discussions report identifying this cause; no attributable repair resolution). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'cat as it was rattling' (1 discussions; 1 report identifying it and 0 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Repair itself' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Suggestion
I've seen other shops replace the 02 sensors, then the MAF, then the cats trying to track down problems.

It will also data log for you and reset the airbag fault.

Suggestion
It can take several engine starts and more than just engine starts the car must be driven in such a way that agress with the drive cycle used to set readiness tests to complete.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I knew what the cause was, bought the part to fix it, then fixed it.
So had a CEL due to bad Cat. Replaced the cats. Should the light go off on it's own or do i need to get it reset? This of course is predicated on the O2 sensors being okay. Know it was the cat as it was rattling.
If the converters were the problem the light should go out after a while. It can take several engine starts and more than just engine starts the car must be driven in such a way that agress with the drive cycle used to set readiness tests to complete.
The drive cycle is nothing real fancy: Cold start; some idling time; moderate driving at medium speeds, etc. I've never tested this only going by what my references tell me. I do know that it can take a similar cycle to set the error light if something's amiss, having gone through at least 2 bad O2 sensors and dealing with a marginal converter. This converter causes a check engine light but it takes close to a 30 mile drive -- my regular commute -- before the light comes on and it comes on almost every time just a few miles from my destination, either the office in the AM or home in the PM.
Sincerely,
Macster.
Not all codes will clear with ignition cycles. Did you ever get your codes read before replacing the cats? I would get them read regardless and then clear with durametric, piwis or pst2.
Yeah got the rattling cat and from experience knew the light to be related. Driven the car three times now and it is still on. Each time at least 30 minutes. Will give it a day or so more. Thanks guys.
It has little to do with how long you run it....it is the ignition starts...I think the service manual says it needs 7 without repeat of the symptoms...although as I said above not all codes will reset this way.
Bad cats?... Do yourself a favor and get an OBD-II reader now. You'll want to be able to read the codes yourself in the future so you know exactly whats going on. I've seen other shops replace the 02 sensors, then the MAF, then the cats trying to track down problems. As a side note, it will allow you to clear your codes after a repair and see if they come back right away. Good luck!
LOL indeed Slevin. It did not repair itself gentlemen. I knew what the cause was, bought the part to fix it, then fixed it. Third porsche, not a newbie to doing my own work. That said, where is a good source for a reader? Any out there that are reasonable and you can reset and such?
Do yourself a favor and just get Durametric...it is the best Porsche diagnostic tool available besides the very expensive PIWIS or PST2. It will also data log for you and reset the airbag fault.
