Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

7 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I've been hearing a noise from the front end of my 2002 C4S. Starts being noticeable around 45 mph or so. Kind of a low frequency growl, not unlike a bad wheel bearing on some of my older cars of past. Any thoughts or suggestions how to troubleshoot?

POST 2Original post

My front differential made a noticeable noise, mostly when off throttle, when it was leaking and needed replacement.

POST 3Original post

I also have recently removed the front diff on my C4S due to a bad bearing. I also heard a similar noise at speed afterwards and it was due to a bent rim.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Did you find a used replacement or go with new? I don't know if you can even get new. Roughly what did you pay? Did you install yourself or have it done? Thanks!

POST 5Original post

Ask on the 996 turbo forum. Many tt owners remove the front diff to make them RWD. I bought a slightly used one for $300. Check that they arent leaking. Labor swapping the diffs out will be multiples of the part price.

POST 6Original post

If only Porsche had gone quaife or thorsen for the torque split instead of the disposable haldex.

POST 7Original post

I just fitted a Wavetrac LSD into my 2003 C4S as I had a front end transmission noise. The difference is NIGHT AND DAY over the stock open diff
