Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. Then I checked the oil, it was slightly low, the lower bars of the test, near the lower end of the dip stick.

Last night I pulled the belt off to check the idler pulleys, they do not seem to be the cause, after that I started it up and it ran fine, slightly quieter.
Leading evidence: 'Check oil' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'dual mass flywheel not the throughout bearing' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Check idler pulleys, they do not seem' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Cleaned the MAF electrical connector, did not seem to do anything.

Still ran poorly, stumbled, misfired, burned rich.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

All the codes are gone, the PSM and ABS error is gone.
So I have a squeaky drive train, it was not consistent, making it tough to diagnose. It seems that generally it is when accelerating, but not always. Sometimes when the clutch is in, and sometimes not. It got much worse this morning, which is when I took the video. Last night I pulled the belt off to check the idler pulleys, they do not seem to be the cause, after that I started it up and it ran fine, slightly quieter. After a 40 mile drive the check engine light came on for p0507, high idle RPMs. I cleared the code and it ran fine last night. I have to believe I disrupted something in the intake when I pulled out the airbox, causing the code and air leak, which I have not diagnosed yet, the squeak got so much louder this morning. Perhaps they are related, but the car ran great until this morning, even after I pulled the belt and re-assembled it. Seems between last night and now it got much louder and more consistent. All fluid levels are good. Actuall, as I write this, I have not checked the trans fluid.
I crawled under the car and it is much louder from underneath.
I am hoping its not a throw out bearing, but would appreciate any input. There is a video below.
Thanks in advance.

Here is what i have now.
Cleaned the MAF electrical connector, did not seem to do anything. Still ran poorly, stumbled, misfired, burned rich.
Then I checked the oil, it was slightly low, the lower bars of the test, near the lower end of the dip stick. Added about half a quart. I use Driven HT40, that is what Flat Six Innovations recommends, they rebuilt the motor before I bought the car. The oil fill tube is broken, I have ordered a new one, and the coolant tee that is susceptible to breaking.
Then it started running much more smoothly, the occasional stumble, but idle holds at 700. Is there a universe where the oil level would cause misfires? The only change I made was adding a bit of oil.
I still have code for misfires in 2,3 and 6.
I replaced the coils a few thousand miles ago. It could be plugs? Or is that just wishful thinking?
The squeak is definitely coming from the passenger side of the engine compartment, probably right by the muffler. Good its not from the transmission. I noticed that there is some wetness, on the valve cover, not drips of flid, but definitely a fluid leak. Photo below.
I also have a PSM failure and ABS failure message on the dash. That just started tonight. I thought I had read a post on the board in the past that tied together these two failures to something. Does anyone recall these errors? It makes no sense to me that pulling the air box and MAF would cause these two, but the car has not moved since then. I found one post about the brake pedal switch failing. I went out there to confirm my brake lights function, all good. Started it up again for curiosity sakes. All the codes are gone, the PSM and ABS error is gone. I running very well. Not perfect, but nearly. Probably needs to be driven.
But I still have the squeak. Any idea what that could be?
Thanks again for the thoughts.
That sounds like clutch to me but it probably the dual mass flywheel not the throughout bearing. Could be both?
Did u run the car with the air box removed. If so u had the maf disconnected and thats why u got all those codes.
Not sure about the squeak, but the oil leak looks to be coming from cyl. 6 . Most likely a spark plug tube or O-rings.
When you get that repaired you should remove spark plug and make sure when reinstalling to torque to 19 ft. lbs. You might want to retorque all three.
I am going to get under there tonight and tighten the plugs, on a 2002 engine that was rebuilt by Flat Six Innovations, I dont believe there are o-rings? If i recall, when I bought the coils there was no option for tubes or o-rings. Hopefully the plug is clean, or if it is not, I can find the seal easily.
The squeak does not really correlate to anything, inconsistently affected by the clutch in or out. It is strongly on the right side of the engine. Will find out more tonight.
The broken oil fill tube will cause extreme issues with vacuum management in the engine and crankcase DO NOT DRIVE with it leaking.
It can allow too high of volume through the AOS and if it gulps oil its game over.... (Assuming your running an original AOS.... )
Pulled #6, there was leaking oil, on the cover. The plug has burned some oil for sure. Spark plug was loose, hopefully that is the cause of my squeak.
There are no spark plug tubes. Does that make sense? The only thing removed in this phot is the coil pack and the spark plug. ?The Pelican book I have shows a rubber ring at the top, I do not appear to have that.
Might as well do new plugs while I am in here. Bosch FGR6K is what is in there, will get those unless there is a reason to do otherwise.
Oil fill tube goes in next.
I have read up on the AOS upgrade, I have not looked at what I have, the engine was rebuild several years ago by FSI. Not sure which one they put in.
Any other advice is appreciated.
Thanks, i did confirm that there should not be tubes. After a super unhelpful trip to the dealer,. The Pelican book says 99-2004 have the tubes. Apparently its only up to 2001. So I think I am in good order. Put it all back together and see how we go.
Was able to get the filler tube replaced today. The key is remove the throttle, 4 bolts and 4 hose clamps, and rotate the intake plenum up, the inch or so roof makes all the difference. Plus lossening the alternator, 2 bolts, buys some room aswell.
It would have save me an hour or two of messing around with extensions trying to get to the 2 10mm bolts. It was also tricky to get the near bolt lined up with the holes and threads. Used a nail set to line them up.
