Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Leading evidence: 'Use 997 snorkel' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace sealing ring' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

I just had to change the sealing ring that snaps onto the decklid to part #997.110.250.00.

I didn't go into the details in my previous reply, but I believe you're correct, & some 996's cars either don't have the SAI pump on the left, or perhaps the 996.1's have this set further back than the 996.2.

Some smaller ancillary stuff was needed like moving the air pump over (I cut and re-welded the existing bracket and tucked it right in the corner), altering the oil filler tube etc., not to mention that with the maf tube I used the dme needed a slight tweak to the maf calibration curve (it would be the same using the original tube"

On the 996.2 the SAI will prevent the use of the 997.1 snorkel.

Use original 997 airbox snorkel, or the easier option is

Depending on the car, it will need a small piece of plastic to be trimmed away at the front of the airbox to stop it fouling near the latch, & you'll either need to relocate the secondary airpump to use the original 997 airbox snorkel, OR the easier option is to reuse the 996 snorkel which will fit right on to the 997 airbox.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I've been looking at this since it's close to the 997.1 X51 package but it would require trying to figure out how to reroute the oil cap tube and fining a hose that would fit. The fan would also interfere as well.
It can be done, but I understand it's a royal pain to do. See reply from Tim at "

Obviously, you'd also need to make some changes to your deck lid to allow for airflow on the right side as well.
If you want to make the engine bay look neater, then the 997.1 3.6 airbox will fit a 996 & requires less effort.
The 997.1 3.8 airbox is slightly different to the 3.6 version & has a vacuum line connected to operate a flap for the helmholtz resonator. You'd need to remove the vacuum line connector & block this off on the rear of the airbox, & remove the flap or just block off the resonator section completely.

This is what I used and did Works fine and looks great. Seeing as I have a 3.8 stg II in er I dont feel like Im posing 😉
Maybe it's a MkI/MkII thing because the 997 airbox was plug and play on my '99, no modifications of any kind were necessary. I also used the 997 snorkel with no issues. I just had to change the sealing ring that snaps onto the decklid to part #997.110.250.00.

On the 996.2 the SAI will prevent the use of the 997.1 snorkel. I've not tried it yet, but it might be possible to position the SAI a little further back in the stock bracket with some different anti-vibration mounts to provide enough clearance for the 997 snorkel.
As per my previous post, the 997.2 airbox needs more work to make it fit in a 996 & align with the throttle body, but it may require a bit less for a 996.1 vs 996.2.
For the Carrera S, 997.1 3.8 airbox to fit properly in a 996.2 and everything to work fine, the snorkel, you need a relocation bracket. This is not needed for a .1 as I found latter. Anyway if you have to relocate the SAI pump i have the fabspeed ss bracket that I will gladly sell. Just Pm me.
Tex squirrel (Bruce) and the guy I bought my airbox from had originally bought two brackets. Im not sure if this is still available from Fabspeed. Anyway here are a couple of pics of the bracket, seems well made, good stainless. Anyway Chunk is buying mine.
I think this is the purpose of this place. Helping each other out, sharing our knowledge. Yes I know, Im in particular start talking about all other kind of stuff (hell the off topic thread was created for me 😂
. IF I can help anyone I will, a bunch of you
guys have help me a ton. Keep
in going.
The Fabspeed brackets were available about this time last year.
I e-mailed Fabspeed and asked if they would sell the bracket separately.
Then since the person Luis bought his 3.8 airbox from needed one, I ordered 2 at 1 time.
I sold the one I bought with my Fabspeed intake (in order to finance an IPD Competition plenum) and kept the bracket that came with the intake so I could easily install my 3.8 airbox.
I did have to trim the airbox slightly in order to fit it into my 996.2.
This trimming is not visible when installed.
I also had to trim the other person's 3.8 airbox to fit a 2004 996.2.
This trimming was already done when Luis installed it in his 996.1
Since I already had the SAI relocation bracket installed, I can't confirm it was necessary.
I did have to trim my 996.2 snorkel too, but that may been because of my rear deck with the taco wing.
I assume this because the 2004's snorkel with the factory automatic spoiler didn't require snorkel modifications.
But my new GT3RS style deck also would have required some 996.2 snorkel trimming.
That's my 996 above (and me quoted earlier) with the 997.2 airbox . The 997.2 snorkel you've circled in red required a hole to be made in the decklid and the spoiler, I've got a pic somewhere. The 997.2 box is a nice part with the dual cone filters (I've got K&Ns in there) and the dual intakes, it was however loads of f work to fit, more than I'd bargained for.
