0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Leading evidence: 'Run into supply issues' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Run into supply issues' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Something fun to ponder on this Sunday afternoon....
Do you guys think the 996 could ever go the Singer/Guntherwerks "Reimagined" route? The recent PCA Classic Club Coupe shows us that Porsche themselves can do it.
I think the 996 itself already serves as a good base for a project like that, and believe that a Reimagined-style build would produce an amazing car that cures most of the negatives people have for the 996:
Engine could be a custom build or even simply a factory GT3 motor. This would virtually eliminate all the M96 foibles. Turbo cars are already pretty much good to go but upgrades would be easy.
Interior bits could be upgraded with superior leather surfaces, 3d printed plastics, metals, etc. Seems most complaints about the interior are about the quality of materials versus the difficult things like ergonomics, shape, etc. I believe redoing the surfaces in quality/exotic materials and offering such things as a true rear seat delete, better storage options, etc would be appealing.
Headlights will always be an issue, but maybe with the right build, they could become endearing to the nay sayers. The 964 wasn't exactly loved for a while.
What says you?
I think a reimagined 996 very doable now add a jack raby design engine upgrade the body with carbon fiber gt3 nose/hood and a duck tail plus rear wing
I prefer a revised Taco with additional aero tips an Ohlins suspension with a big brake kit and a full diamond/pepita interior in alcantara and leather some deep dish rims viola

Most of the cars out there already have their issues with the motors addressed by now. The GT3 motor is simply too expensive to make compared to modern 991 and 992 motors. Stealing existing GT3 motors kind of impairs GT owners who may actually need one some day and the limited run (less than 1100 GT3s sold in North America) makes sourcing those motors very difficult. Not sure you could shoehorn a 991 motor in there, but why do that when you could just buy a 991 and get a better motor and a better suspension?
The 996 is fine pretty much as it is. Just keeping it serviced yields a good 911, in my opinion.
The interior thing is meh to me because you could get an upgraded interior but it was going to cost you. My car has a full carbon interior and will have a lower console delete. The full leather interiors were beautiful as well.
Granted mine has a cage but I always thought the carbon interior was a nice set up. The geometry was like most cars of that era. You want to complain about an interior? Have you looked at a C5 Corvette interior?
I imagine a company that restomods ratty 996s could do quite well especially if they partnered with the well known engine rebuilders.
no shortage of abused 996 candidates
No question in my mind that there will be a company that specializes in 996 restomods. Singer and Gunther both partner with engine builders. No question we will see the same for the 996.
RPM technik kicked of a basic version, the PCA 996 club sport advanced it further, especially with interior and exterior ideas that are interesting.
We just need 996 prices to rise a bit more accross the board, and a bit more bifurcation in 996 pricing between exceptional examples and non-exceptional examples and the restomods will kick in.
Gotta agree. Keeping the 996.1 and 996.2 light shape is critical. What I do like is what rennkit did with their 996.2 light package by keeping the shape, but updating the look. Shame they ran into supply issues. Hope they or someone else are able to produce something similar again.
But all of this will eventually come out as 996 prices start to rise again and the "re-imagined" ideas start to proliferate.
I'd like it to be reimagined into something that's actually affordable. Do people really want a $500k + 996? There are some options available already but nowhere near as many as for older cars. As 996 comes into it's own that will potentially change.
996 reimagined into a Safar Build (in South Africa) - done:
996 Reimagined into something with GT3 vibes (RPM Technik) Done:
Porsche did their thing but I don't see them doing any "reimagining". If anything, you'll be able to have it restored to factory spec through their classic program. The Classic Club Coupe was an awesome "look what we can do" exercise. I actually got to see the car in person this weekend and the PCA HQ open house and chatted with Vu a bit. The car will be auctioned off in near future, just like the Sally Special was. He thinks it has potential to go beyond $1M because it was so much more technical than the cosmetic work done on the Sally Special which was basically a GTS. He said the drove the 996 and it sounded like it has it's place on twisty roads and track, courtesy of no rubber bushings in suspension! The reality is that it will sit in a warehouse under a cover and on a battery tender. Sad times. I think there is potential to make some parts available to public but that remains to be seen.
I think this will become an option for "all 911's" when the platform is fully electrified in the future. The reason for this is there will be a higher demand for available "retro" 911 bodies. What people need to keep in mind is that Singers cost $600,000+ - at that price point the purpose of using the 964 as the foundation of the car is not about love for the 964 it's about starting with a form that is pretty close to the shape you want when you're finished - a classic 911 with some embellishments. When a 911 becomes a Singer there is very little OEM left on the vehicle. So the person who wants a "Singer 996" is going to require a romance for the jellybean 996 form as well as the headlights. The hand work on the interior, the special motor and other small details will of course set it apart as a very personal, bespoke piece of art. But at the end of the day a large, large point of owning a Singer is how it looks parked on a golf course fairway.
