Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Fluid is fine, top workers perfect and is rather fast going up and down, it's running strong with only 30,000 miles on the car.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I seriously worked on this for a few weeks and I generally figure things out myself but I'm pretty stuck, can't find anything on this specific top problem and I have read a lot of posts on the web
What actually controls the latching hook to move into position and properly time itself with the windshield in order to lock down?
My top hook is trying to grab 3-4 inches above the windshield and I have to have to manually pull it down and help it then it will latch. Or open the top slightly with the dash button again and move it forward again with the dash button.
No dash error codes, fluid is fine, windows go up and down as they should, top goes up and down perfect except for helping the latch find the windshield
I have Durametric, no error codes in the program or dash, I calibrated the top (Note hook does not come out when you calibrate from open to close, the top will fully extends during calibration and sits on the windshield properly and the top closes again perfect. Seem like this is a correct calibration
Does the potentiometer on the drivers side cylinder control the when the hook should extend? what controls the hook extension?? Has anybody else had this specific problem, seems really strange??
Thanks
I think there is a limit switch on the latching mechanism (on the convertible top side). Check that it is functioning properly. Also, check you hydraulic fluid level if the top is struggling.
Fluid is fine, top workers perfect and is rather fast going up and down, it's running strong with only 30,000 miles on the car. the top latch works fine, it locks every time with no codes, it just tries to lock to soon. the car is a 2001 996. I would think that micro switch would cause locking issue not a top location issue. the 4 windows also go up properly which tells me it's not that micro switch
I'm currently working with Durametric to double check that the calibration has actually completed 100%, Anybody know if you should receive a calibration successfully display on your program after calibration? I noticed my does not and the curser just spins and doesn't actual officially stop until I press stop
I'll be watching this thread to see how it turns out, as my latch closes too early as well, after I put a new top on. I am certain my top guy didn't recalibrate anything, so maybe that's what it needs.
I'm currently working with Durametric sending them logs to see what is going on. Owen at Durametrics has been great with quick response, they have sent me some program mods and firmware. initially the top would not calibrate at all with the Durametric
During calibration when it closes the top lays flat perfectly on the windshield as it should. Not sure if it is normal for the hook not to come out at all so it does not lock the windshield frame. no indication of a successfully calibration with the program, I have to press stop to stop calibration, not sure if this is also normal.
Have some work to do yet....
Would be great to hear from someone who knows these details of a calibration
This all started after I did a major cleaning and lube of the convertible compartment, I think anyway. I wonder if I moved the clam flaps and screwed up the calibration, or what controls the hook extension, may have a fault with one of the potentiometers
