Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

The owner did say he changed the IMS but I didn't see any records.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

On the fence for a 996 2003 C4 with 111k on her.
She was a good price (under 20k) and I said why not give it a whirl.
I owned a new 99 Boxster, for five years.
Then in 2016 I bought a 997.1 which was sold due to divorce.
Then the itch came up recently and this came across the world wide web, a mere 5 miles from my house.
So with that small story, I will be giving her a final walkthrough tomorrow for a purchase. I know some of the qwerks the Cab has with drains and such. I looked undercarriage and did see the tranny pan having old oil caked up. She's a Tip, non S.
The owner did say he changed the IMS but I didn't see any records. Wondering how I can prove that.
Oil changes were regular. Belts changed at 90k.
Anything else I should be aware of that can be alarming or a concern?
Climate control screen is shot, so ill be changing then LED myself. Needs minor care interior, Removing the stock deck and putting in an updated Android model.
I do want to replace interior buttons to clean them up, giving a fresh feel. If anyone knows where to get drivers side memory buttons / sill area please let me know.
I do want to add the rear spoiler button to the dash for ease rather then pulling the foot panel for access to the button.
Steering has no play.
Engine cranks couple of times on cold start, but idles out nice and reacts strong to the pedal.
I did feel shifting from reverse to drive quick, she lunges forward.
Thank you all for reading.

You can find everything you want here. I replaced both my inner and outer sills and a few of my buttons.
No way to prove the IMS was done. Ask him when it was done so you know when to do it again. But I wouldn't worry about it. Enjoy the car! Do a used oil analysis when you change the oil.
You might want to get the owner to do a PPI on the car. Likely you would be fine to just drive it as pulpo said but maybe at lest getting an oil analysis done before buying it would be a good start if the owner has some miles on the oil that is in the car. the oil analysis would tell a LOT about the health of the motor. You could get a pump and pump it from the top of the motor so the oil doesn't need to be drained.
Honestly I'd keep looking for one that is more well cared for with no stories or questions. A Tip C4 cab is one of the least expensive 996s on the market right now so you should be able to find plenty in your price bracket.
Make sure you're speaking of the same thing when saying IMS as that stands for intermediate shaft itself. You want to make sure whether he's thinking of the IMS bearing or the IMS seal or even mixing it up with RMS rear main seal...
Thank you all for your replies.
IMS and RMS was done spoke to the mechanic yesterday who did it.
She was garaged and covered most of her life. I'll upload pics shortly.
At the 15k, with owner having a baby soon, she mine now as of this posting. Haha.
I started to restore the lights already..
What's the best headlight restore. I've done one in the past with 500 800 grit sanding but she has deep yellowing. Any good tricks? I hate having the yellow swirl when I'm sanding.
