Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Some people are more protective than others. 996 " what I did today" thread shows a bumper lesion that is the result of parking shenanigans. I have to admit that I take parking into consideration when I go places.

POST 2Original post

In the garage. And never take it out. Something bad could happen.

POST 3Original post

Be sure to protect your garaged 996 with rodent repellant, if it doesn't move it will become a nest.

POST 4Original post

Bring this with you.....wrap car generously when parking:

POST 5Original post

I take the wife's minivan if there are any concerns or maybe the trip is too short etc. Its utility and comfort offset its lack of glamour. It's glamour lies in the fact it demands little other than regular service.

POST 6Original post

I love my 996. I drive mine short trip, long trip, city parking lot, grocery store run and parking lot. I just mostly park out and away from other cars. Never had a problem. I only wish since the pandemic hit that I had more trips to run.

Great point. We need to talk more about this as winter storage arrives. I'm a new owner in the Northeast and storage is new to me. Another thread if one doesn't already exist.

Lots of threads on rodents. Search will find them.

POST 9Original post

I park next to equally expensive cars and usually back into a parking spaces, If I've never been to a particular place I'll take the Touareg.

POST 10Original post

I don't take my Garage Queen to box store parking lots.

POST 11Original post

Moved down here in 2019, had a Sedona red 128i for the daily at the time. Nothing fancy, plus it had 200k miles at that point. Went to Shem Creek which is mostly dirt parking. Someone did a donut and sprayed the entire rear of car with dirt, thus chipping up the paint pretty bad on the rear and cracking the center brake light. Had a hard time figuring out why the car was so dusty when I parked way far away from everyone else, then saw the giant tire rings on the ground. Needless to say, that was the day I stopped driving the 996 when it was usually taken anywhere/everywhere. The BMW was frustrated than anything, but if it was the 996, would have been pretty gutted. Almost drove it that day too.

There is a certain group of people who see a Porsche and want to impart some hurt. Someone here (or on BAT) had owned a Mustang Boss and reported that when he interacted with passing cars, he got the thumbs up. He then bought a Porsce and reported that he was more apt to get the middle finger from motorists.

POST 13Original post

My car isn't safe when parked, when driving, or in the garage. It's been hit 3 times while parked, once while I was driving it, and once a ladder fell off the wall in my garage and hit the car. The first time it happened I freaked out. Now I just bring it to my favorite body shop where everyone knows my name (and the car). They always make it look like new. I still try to park out of the way, but I don't worry about it anymore since I know it can be made good again.

POST 14Original post

Park it with a pair of pit bulls leashed to each side of your car or get a Camry

POST 15Original post

I just try to find a group of vehicles that respect solid white lines as much as I do and park it like any old car. Everything has been fine.

POST 16 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

For example: a trip to Wally world.

POST 17Original post

Make parking your 996 part of your 10,000 steps a day program and it will be just fkne.

POST 18Original post

Unfortunately, Porsche's are apparently strongly magnetic. Now matter where you park, even if it's in the center of a hundred empty spaces that's the farthest from the store, it will have attracted several cars around it by the time you return.

POST 19Original post

It's a car that enjoy driving and using. I do try to park out of the way and away from other cars. However, when I drive it to work it's a regular parking lot. I am completely comfortable using this vehicle.

POST 20Original post

It's not because it is a Porsche. I look for good parking spots with my daily, when I borrow a friends car (I take neices/nephew to many places. there is 5 of them). I try to park further out, end spots, wider spots etc. It never ceases to amaze me how regardless of the car I'm driving that it becomes a magnet for other cars. I think it is the sheep mentality.

POST 21Original post

Over the weekend a friends friend had his 2020 GT2 rs we parked it in an empty country club parking lot there was literally 4 cars when we came in a 60 car lot go get coffee and come back and all the 4 cars moved to surround the Porsche LOL

This goes for a lot of these older German cars I think. They are very cheap to buy and own but still look expensive. I used to get a ton of flak for my used E38 by colleagues who just assumed it was an expensive car. These are guys that had $60k-$80k pickup trucks pulling equally priced campers, boats, etc. For most people, a Porsche is always an expensive car. When I bought my 996 in 2017, one of my uncles asked how much I paid and told me he just assumed a Porsche was $100,000 no matter what. When you have no idea about cars/values/pricing a Porsche is an expensive toy, driven by a a rich douchebag.

This has always been funny to me. Likewise, was driving an E82 128i BMW for daily, drove it from 50k to 220k, and at 220k people still gave me **** for driving a BMW and Porsche when their truck cost more than both cars combined. Hell I barely got $1,500 on trade in for the stupid thing!

POST 25Original post

I don't think about it much. Even my DD truck/suburban i park away from people if i can. If i can't, i try and find a spot that only allows one other car to park on one side. If i can't find a decent spot ill simply go somewhere else. Work used to be the worst but since we moved locations the parking area is huge. Easy to park by myself. Walmart is terrible so i park near Cabellas and walk. Same applies to all our cars. 996 isnt special in that. But i also bought it when the 996 was still unloved and cheap.

WOW, love the color of your GT3 wheels, beautiful car... Can you share the color and did you powdercoat or paint the wheels (color-code?)? You are lucky that no-one tried to park next to you. If it was my car, I think someone would have already parked next to me, every time for some weird reason... Cheers,

POST 28Original post

Thanks. Not sure of color as I bought them from a RL member a few years ago. They are powder coated, and probably need to be done again as the inside barrels are peeling a bit.

A few years back I was in the 996 at a stop light on the main drag. A clapped out lifted truck pulled up along side. After a few seconds I leaned down to look out and up at the driver who had his head and arm hanging out his window. He reminded me of one of the guys from Deliverance. You know dirty, semi-toothless, etc. He was scoping my car out and I was expecting a large wad of "chewin terbaccie" being spit on my windshield at any minute. When he noticed me looking he shot me a big semi-toothless grin and a thumbs up. You can't tell the book from the cover...

The post you're referring to might be mine, since I recently woke up to find someone had Rubbed my 996, and not in a good way.. This happened when I was parked at Home, albeit on the road since I do not have a Garage [yet] to park it in..
