Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Suspected cause
I think it was the big fir tree that gave it away, they're not that common in that area.
Leading evidence: 'big fir tree' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'big fir tree' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Clean condition' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

While I do like the original twist style wheels on the 996, I dont know if I love them enough to buy a set, sell these, etc.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

3 1/2 years ago I bought this one for $18k with 88,500 miles on it. Last week, with 98,500 miles I sold it for $26,000. I wasnt sure what I would get next, but I knew I wanted to sell it before I got too close to 100,000 miles.
I thought maybe Id wait a while, check out some other options, and see what my next weekend car would be. I quickly realized that theres really no other sports car for me. As luck would have it, I found what I actually at times wished I had gotten three years ago, and with the money I got for the Cabriolet, I got this
A 99 Coupe with 69,000 miles, in incredibly clean condition. What I didnt know until now was how much nicer some of the interior materials were in 1999. The previous owner put a short shifter on this one and man, do I love it. Also, the 99 has a distinctly different feeling and sound when I open or close the doors.
I love these cars so much. Its insane how much the prices have gone up recently. The fact that I basically traded for a 911 with 30,000 less miles, and also feeling like the coupe is a distinct upgrade from the convertiblelife is good. Im living it while I can!
This silver 99 is not mine. Will post pics of my 99 ASAP. It came with tinted windows that didnt do it justice, but it looks identical.
big difference between a coupe and a cab, these early cars are the best. Just watched Jake Raby on rennvision reiterate that. You got ambers too. Complete different feeling driving an egas car to a cable throttle car. The wheels look good but the are not original 99 wheels. Please let us know production date, located on driver side door sill. If early enough was build mostly by hand next to the last few 993. Now just put a bunch of miles on it,
Congrats
The early build on 99s are arguably the best 996s
Obviously Im biased but some people with access to all model years say the same thing.
The best part is the market really doesnt agree and 1999 C2s are still the cheapest 996s to buy right now.
yes, I know the BBS wheels are not original. I have always liked them so unless I find a perfect set of 18 turbo twists Ill keep them. The previous owner replaced his. Probably because they were showing their age.
Setting aside the obvious differences between the feel of the Cabriolet, the 99 feels different. I will probably keep this one for a long time. Might give it to my son one day.
Nice! I am also partial to the 99 coupe. One of the best looking cars ever made IMO. Funny thing I have noticed is that photos just done seem to capture how appealing the lines of these cars are unless you shoot it while standing far away and zoomed in.
Thanks! These are the 18 Sport Design BBS wheels. I have always really liked them on the 996. While I do like the original twist style wheels on the 996, I dont know if I love them enough to buy a set, sell these, etc.
Congrats and welcome to the '99 club. It looks like you found a really nice example.
Was this pic taken at an obscure little exit about halfway between Gaviota and Santa Barbara? It looks like where I've stopped to pee many times over the years on the way back from Monterey Car Week.
Yes. Thats exactly where it was taken. So funny that you recognized it. I take a sunset drive north of Santa Barbara (where Im living right now) several nights each week.
If you do switch get the Hollow technology twists. Much lighter. I have a set and was surprised when I pulled them off my other car. Might have made a difference that there was no rubber left on them too.
Congrats! Great upgrade and even better to make some money on a 996, who would've thought?!
99s are awesome. Yours should also have limited slip as well which is nice to have.
Cheers!
I think it was the big fir tree that gave it away, they're not that common in that area. I love that stretch of road. Not a lot of traffic and great scenery.
You Tube
There is no such thing as traffic on the 20 mile stretch of the 101 from Goleta to Gaviota, and nothing the the Pacific Ocean on one side, and hillsides on the other. As much as I have a love hate relationship with Los Angeles, the coastline north of Ventura is all love.
Correct. My 996 still had window tint on it when I bought it, so I found a couple of pics online that looked identical to mine (without tinted windows).
I didnt even notice the right hand drive on the second pic.
Hey Michaelo - Im here on this forum for enjoyment, and to connect with other people who love the same thing I love. The last thing I need is sarcasm. Theres too much of that out there, beyond rennlist.com.
Ill post actual pics of my 911 once I return home from burying my stepfather (COVID), and moving my mother into assisted living.
