Though it looks good in the photos I doubt it will hold up to the test of time and I suspect the edges will peel.

I made a black leather covered center armrest cover and I am deciding whether I should keep the original leather gray armrest cover or use the black leather armrest cover I made.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Im cleaning up some of the worn trim inside my 2000 Cabriolet. Ive already replaced the gearshift trim, the key bezel trim, scratched up air vents, and the small triangular mirror pieces for the Sideview mirrors. I made a black leather covered center armrest cover and I am deciding whether I should keep the original leather gray armrest cover or use the black leather armrest cover I made.
Attached are some photos for reference?

One thing you might want to watch for when you're replacing trim pieces - your car has the Soft Touch trim (which is why it's all so scratched up). You may want to find 996 specific pieces from a '99 996 or pieces that were shared with the 986 Boxster ('97-'99). The earlier pieces didn't have the soft touch plastic/rubber covering and hold up much better.
You might also want to put some thought into how you're mixing black trim pieces, gray trim pieces and carbon fiber pieces. Speaking from experience, it's pretty easy to end up with a combination of colors and textures that really don't look good together and you'll then spend extra time/money getting it sorted.
Has the logo on your shift **** been replaced or is that factory? Mine is missing and need to figure out a replacement. If replaced is that by chance from the key fob?
Pretty sure that is factory. I have seen color replacement crests on eBay.
My current pieces are the soft touch as mentioned earlier and the vehicle came with the factory Carbon Fiber option.
Somehow the grey center arm rest cover seems out of place. Thats why I ask about the black cover.
I wonder how a Carbon Fiber center arm rest would look?
It's easy to get lost in the 996 interior with the singular colors dominating majority of the cabin, but the black (and your thought of CF) looks sorta out of place, the grey "flows".
Thanks everyone for your input.
Ive decided to leave the factory grey center console cover in place. Though it seems out of place against the carbon fiber center console, it stands out less than the black leather cover that I made.
As for a carbon fiber center console cover. . . eBay sells a wrap for $17. Though it looks good in the photos I doubt it will hold up to the test of time and I suspect the edges will peel.
I did find a genuine carbon fiber center console cover on eBay for $240 delivered. It looks like a nice product, but I may hold off on that for now. I probably should buy and install Litronic headlight protectors first.
