Suggestion

I've just gone through the exercise of replacing the soft touch pieces in my 2000 Boxster with earlier pieces (mostly new that I bought from Suncoast), to get rid of the scratched soft touch pieces.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

5 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I am looking to replace my plastic inner sill trim with a new one. I know soft touch sucks, but want to match the other plastic parts. I ordered a console horseshoe once, and it was plain black plastic which was fine because I painted it to match the exterior color. Thanks!

POST 2Original post

You can get both new. My '99 996 has the hard plastic as do my '99 Boxsters. The Boxster went to soft touch in MY 2000, and since so much of the trim pieces fit both cars, I'm guessing the 996 went to soft touch in 2000 as well. I've just gone through the exercise of replacing the soft touch pieces in my 2000 Boxster with earlier pieces (mostly new that I bought from Suncoast), to get rid of the scratched soft touch pieces. If you get on the Suncoast parts site you'll see they break down the model years between the hard plastic and soft touch pieces.

I checked the Suncoast site and didnt see a choice between model years, but thanks anyway.

POST 4Original post

You can always strip the soft touch and paint and repaint in body color automotive paint...
