Suggestion

Something worth considering is that you'll probably end up running rubber bands for tires which will really affect the ride quality - in a negative way.

Go with 18's and widen the stance with 15mm spacers if you are using the Oem wheels.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

hi guys need some advice .will 20 " wheels go on and my 996 or will they cause any problems 🤔

POST 2Original post

IMHO, that's way too big of a wheel for our cars. I'm assuming you're doing this for aesthetics? Something worth considering is that you'll probably end up running rubber bands for tires which will really affect the ride quality - in a negative way. 18" is the sweet spot with 19" being the largest I'd go. Also, consider the added weight of a 20" wheel. That's a lot more rotational weight which will affect your acceleration.

ok 👍 great thanks for the expert advice. l had a feeling 20s would be too big. yes lm just doing it for aesthetic reasons. thanks again sir.

POST 6Original post

No problem. As a visual, here is my car with 18" wheels vs one with 19" Lobster Fork wheels (probably my favorite OEM wheel). 19" looks pretty maxed out without looking goofy, especially if you're at stock ride height, which neither cars are.

POST 7Original post

Im at the limit with perfectly matching my hre 19s to my 99 there is zero room but I never rubbed even on high speed dips 20s would definitely rub but I also never tracked it yet!!!

POST 8Original post

17" Lover here... Some wheels (some factory 19" offerings) look awesome on our cars. Other aftermarket offerings, look too big for our cars. Like mentioned above, aesthetics can vary based on suspension condition, height, wheel design, tire size, etc. Performance wise, give me as light a wheel that will cover my current brake setup while giving me wheel strength and a decent side wall for my different driving duties and i'm happy.

I think the overall ride will suffer. Why are you considering it? Whats the benefit?

POST 10Original post

Go with 18's and widen the stance with 15mm spacers if you are using the Oem wheels. Or... IMHO, one of the best looks for the 996 is the 18 in apex wheels on Pete's car. Fills in the wheel wells, looks the business and works visually with the 996 lines. Plus you have plenty of rubber and air to protect your rims if you hit a bump. Not so much with the 20 inchers.

POST 11Original post

Thanks GC996. I forgot to mention that my wheels are 8.5" in the front and 11" wide in the rear running GT3 sized rubber. I think you'll much more enjoy seeing the 295 tire width in the rear than a 20" wheel!
