Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi guys, does anyone know of the process (if one exists) of replacing or adjusting the drivers side upper door hinge. Mine has got some play, if I lift the edge of the door I can see about 4 or 5 mm of play around the hinge. Has anyone repaired one of these before and could you shed some light on the process.

POST 2Original post

Huh. Can't find anything on adjusting the hinge. I would replace them if they have that much play in them. See here: http://www.autoatlanta.com/porsche-p...section=804-00

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Looks to be welded in place to me

POST 4Original post

The hinge arm is welded to the body. The part that attaches to the door is replaceable and has a bushing in it. That may be where your "play" is coming from. If you think the door hinge arm is worn or damaged, you are looking at a lot of $....door removal and new hinge arms welded to frame. You might want to first check the bolt that runs up through the hinge. Make sure it is tight.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

DBJoe you led me in the right direction, I stripped the hinge off the door after propping it all in place and discovered a tapered part between the two parts of the hinge, I then looked at the other doors and noted that the hinge pin was stationary, meaning it was connected to the body, mine was spinning with the door and undoing the bolt on the bottom each time the door was opend / closed. After a load of freeing up (WD40 etc) I got the pin free again then refitted bolted it tight into the bottom hinge, violla no more movement, I think the taper takes most of this out. Phew...
