ONLY check the oil cold, and only add oil when cold.

You started by saying "whenever I go on a long drive..." but then in your last post you say "it hasn't taken any significant amount...since that one 900 mile trip." Using some oil is normal but I'm wondering if you are properly checking your oil level.

Did you have a recent oil change before this sudden 2 quart loss?

The manual for the newer porsches states if you do a lot of short trips in stop and go traffic, the oil will get contaminated with moisture and fuel so the oil level doesn't or hardly changes despite usual oil consumption.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Just wondering if anyone else is having this issue or if it is relatively normal.
Whenever I go on long drives on the Interstate or something like that I have noticed that my car is going through some oil. One time it went down it went down so low that I had to had almost two quarts. It does not happen when I am just cruising around town or anything though. Ive looked around the motor and up underneath the car and there is no leakage that I can find.
Any insight?
If you're sucking that much oil, the intake should be drenched. How many miles are you driving for it to blow through two quarts? You don't need to add much liquid to a piston to hydrolock it.
If you were burning a quart every thousand miles, I'd be casual. 2 quarts during one drive warrants some expedited investigation in my opinion. There's only really 2 places that oil can go - well, three, but I think you'd notice if it was leaking out the bottom - through the motor and out the back end as smoke, which is going to take out your catalytic converters prematurely, or into the cooling system. I'm certainly not suggesting it's the latter, but if it IS, waiting will require more $$ to fix.
Coolant is good and it hasn't taken any significant amount of oil since that one 900 mile trip. Ever since its just been the occasional half quart or less to keep it topped off. Still had me worried to say the least. That trip was a couple months ago.
It's not smoking or anything either. Nor is anything knocking. Those were my first thoughts as well. Being as none of it is happening I was beginning to wonder
2 quarts over 900 miles is still too much, but not so much that I'd FBITTM ("flat bed it to the mechanic," a favorite saying around here). Still, check the intake manifold. If it's really slick with oil, that's another indication that the AOS is overzealous and needs fixing.
And yes, the vac test also.
If this is a one time occurance and you just had the oil changed, perhaps it was not filled properly. How many miles on your engine?
Sorry that was a bad explanation on my part. It was just on that one drive. Hasn't been anything significant since. My oil had been recently changed so that could have been the issue. But it was full when I left according the gauge. I've have 116000 on the motor.
Well, I'm just going to throw this out there but how do you know your oil level was at full capacity to begin with? Was your measuring methodology the same and under the same conditions? Usually I only measure it before a cold start. Every other oil reading is generally ignored.
2 qts. seems to be a little much for a "short fill"...I could definitely see a half or even a full qt. as "accidental"... any more than that is just a rip-off/fraudulent. In addition, did you check the dipstick as well as the gauge meter? - always a good idea, as depending on where you're parked, the reading can be quite different - 2 qts. different though, I don't think so...
Very good point. I fight this all the time with the owners of new engines. They are freakazoid about the oil and they add oil when they should not.
ONLY check the oil cold, and only add oil when cold. I allow the level to get down 1 full QT before adding anything, then I only add 1/2 qt and see where that puts the level.
The manual for the newer porsches states if you do a lot of short trips in stop and go traffic, the oil will get contaminated with moisture and fuel so the oil level doesn't or hardly changes despite usual oil consumption. When you go for a long drive at speed, that moisture and fuel will burn off and make the oil level drop significantly. That might be your issue.
