Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I use the big boy for loosening and the little guy for snugging before final torqueing by hand.
Leading evidence: 'Use big boy' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'best most accurate way' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Inspect brakes and measure the rotors later today and saw' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Suggestion
Now that I only wrench in my driveway on my cars, I only use an impact on BFN removals, which is rare.

I use an impact all the time for loosening nuts and bolts.

When I was working in a shop, some time ago, impact wrench was used for speed, then the torque wrench finished the job.

However, it's probably the best most accurate way to do it.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Going to inspect the brakes and measure the rotors later today and saw that the Bentley manual advises against using an impact wrench on the wheels. Didnt find anything in the search on this topic. Planning to use a 80 ft-LB torque stick and then a torque wrench to bring it up to spec. Anybody see any issue with doing that?
Sounds like a game plan. Just make sure to back the nuts off if you dont get any rotation on them on initial torque wrench use. Main concern being overtorqued lug nuts from the impact obviously.
Don't tell my lugs/wheels/hubs I've been impacting the bejesus out of them...
Wheels come on and off my car very frequently. Come off with an impact. Go back on and snugged with an impact. Drop car on the ground and torque.

I will rarely use an impact for tightening bolts or nuts.
The exception is wheel lug nuts.,
I use my impact with an under-rated torque stick and then finish up with a torque wrench.
Yeah, Ive read that using an impact to remove is ok, but not to tighten. Im guessing the main reason is over tightening. I once had to apply over 800 ft-lbs to a lug to remove the wheel from my Dads Jeep. That shop always used an impact. Too tightly torqued lugs can warp things, if not weaken or strip the lugs.
Yes, I'd use an impact wrench for removal of lugs only. Not for putting them back on, unless you used something like this.

That old IR is a workhorse. I'm still using the one I bought back in 82 every day in the shop. Heavy as hell, builds arm muscles every time I pick it up. Wasn't the cheapest air gun on the market at the time. But you get what you pay for.
