Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

As someone who has used the series to build a 3.4 M96 motor, I promise you it covers what you did wrong.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Trying to help a friend out that has a 2002 C4S 3.6l non-turbo (not sure if that is obvious by the year).
Backstory:
this car is driven hard and was purchased only 3,000 miles prior. Car started producing a lot of smoke and clatter from engine so went ahead and purchased a used engine for 9k. Engine was known good (video of it running in car before being pulled). With that new used engine he installed Schrick racing cams and then went for the reinstall of the engine. This is then what happened and what is known.
Had the engine out and installed Schrick Sport Cams. Reinstalled the engine and now no-start (engine sounds okay) but no fire. Also getting OBD2 codes relating to cam/crank correlation (I will get the specific codes soon).
Just so I can understand the process of installing cams on these engines are there any guides online / videos you guys recommend? What do you think might of gone wrong on the install?
Here is all the info I have at the moment:
2002 C4S 3.6L Manual Trans Non-Turbo
OBD codes with generic code reader (we do not have the speciality tool)-- P0344
P0022
These are the cams he installed— using the tool in the photo (similar to the one linked on eBay).

the tool kit he used is similar to

The cams r timed wrong or u have a bad sensor. Hopefully u didnt bang a valve. The books and litature for timing these motors have been translated from german and often the proceedures r wrong. There r many posts on the issue and the deffinative answere on how to time these motors r in those vidoes.
Did they time the two banks 180 degrees out from each other? After you time one bank, you need to spin the engine 180 degrees before timing the second bank or you will run into a whole bunch of problems and the engine will not run.
This thread is about the 3.4L 5 chain. Maybe it'll help. I'll echo what others have said, though, buy Jake's DVD series.
