Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I also had the key turned (not running) and disconnected the battery by accident.

Just curious, I changed my oil and put the 2002 996 away for the winter.

My SAAB was replaced with a four-wheel-drive truck that has been ceramic coated, frame rails epoxy coated, bed liner used on specific frame areas, and even when using the local car wash with a brush and high-pressure attachment it still does not remove this material in the People's Republic of New Jersey.

Well I have changed the front brakes so I would like to test.

Suggestion
However, when there are those days in which the roads have been rinsed of this material or dry, I place a jack with a heating pad, set on warm under the pan for a very short while, use the prime method to start and then find a purpose to drive it to some great length.

I find that I would rather use my time related to other issues rather than attempting to use freezing water, a frozen garden hose, and a power-washer to remove all of this crud.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Just curious, I changed my oil and put the 2002 996 away for the winter. Well I have changed the front brakes so I would like to test. It's 40 degrees F out. Should I wait until April or am I okay to start. With all this Chunking talk, I don't know the right answer anymore.
I also had the key turned (not running) and disconnected the battery by accident. Curious if I ruined anything there.
Thoughts, opinions?
Thanks.
Drive it - just run it long enough to get the oil hot. People do drive these cars in the winter (not me though, too much snow and salt where I live). Sorry, can't help with the key, but I doubt you hurt anything. It can't be any different than people who leave their heater fan and radio on when they shut down the car.
By all means drive it! The car is not as delicate as you may be led to believe. As Joel said, if you're going to drive it make the drive at least 20 minutes so you can get the engine, and especially the oil, to an operating temperature. During that time just keep the revs under 3k. That's key as it will help burn off any moisture or residual gas and allow everything to come to temp gradually. If you need to move the car and just run it for a minute or so that's fine too. The worst thing that you can do, however, is periodically start it and let it idle for some time and then shut it off. Also short and frequent trips are not advised either. Once in a while is ok, sure, but don't make it a habit.
Re. the battery, I wouldn't worry about anything.
I usually fill the tank and add some Aces IV, plug in the battery tender, and put it away during some of the snow days as the calcium and salt heavily coated on the roads make it hard to remove not only from the windshield but the entire car despite preparations. I find that I would rather use my time related to other issues rather than attempting to use freezing water, a frozen garden hose, and a power-washer to remove all of this crud. There is nothing better than flying into Atlanta finding a flight back home, finding your ride in the long-term lot buried in iced snow, and putting your life on the line attempting to negotiate on snowy roads with people that drive all-wheel-drive vehicles at the limits of adhesion like Mario Andretti. Years ago I thought of nothing when driving my old 356's in winter weather as half the ocean was never deposited on winter roads and people generally drove with some attention to conditions.
Driving when it's cold outside is fine assuming your tires are suitable for the temps. I switch from summer tires to winter tires when the temps begin to consistently drop below 40 and then drive as usual, always staying under 3k rpm until fully warmed up. Driving it like you stole it 12 months/year keeps this old man happy
