Last I checked Pelican had the kits, but I'm not aware of any professionals that can/will perform the actual upgrade.

I inherited the projectors when I bought the car (used) and I am just not sure how to fix this
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Just sharing what I did for my little Porsche car with you guys. They are CGT style headlight bi-xenon projectors running off 35w HID ballasts. And they look guud (they say!).
Some of you got the same kit from me and will soon be installing it so I thought it would be cool for this kit to have a thread on its own. If anyone runs into any complications with the installation [or customer service] (unlikely!), or would simply like to share their tips & tricks along with pictures, post here.
In a meantime, here goes a few visuals of the kit that some members have customized for themselves:
Below is the latest and final work on the kit - w/ built-in Angel Eyes. The design have been modified by request from my mates in Japan, who somehow loves those high performance projectors. They are still at the R&D phase and will be ready by xmas if all tests passes. I'm not a huge fan of Angel eyes myself but for those young at heart (!), they look pretty damn cool (the prototype does anyway).
Beware this is a
no-brand AFTERMARKET part
meant for retrofitting old halogen Porsche 996 & 986 headlights -to- Bi-Xenon HID with high performance projectors. Fully customizable including the script/wordings laser'ed around the bezel (in any language).
Still at a hobby stage however we seriously plan to commercialize those at the beginning of 2014. Therefore the Porsche trademark will have to go I'm afraid. Otherwise customizable on a case-by-case basis.
Enjoy!
Beautiful high quality work.
Question ?
Do you have any experience with rear light assembly's ? Willing to consider designing one a LED setup for the 996tt and C4S wide body cars ?
You could sell 500 on this site alone.
The cutoff is very sharp and you shouldn't have any issues with blinding oncoming drivers unless you mis-aim the headlights or if you have issues with your scatter shield not working properly for the high beams. The only issue is maybe going over a big bump or hill as aftermarket HID's don't have the self-leveling feature as the OEM versions.
I received mine and they seem to be very nicely done. Unfortunately, my free time has been allocated to remodeling a baby room for the upcoming baby so it will have to wait til next year.
Fred, you're killing me with the angel eyes. You really need to think of another name as I don't really see them being angel eyes in the traditional sense.
I normally only like the angel eyes on Bimmers but in this case, those do look cool and unique.
Gator, yes I'm stunned as well but this is the third kid and the novelty wore off after the first one. I did make up for it though and went crazy on the AutoGeek black friday sale. I hope you got some good deals from it too.
In case anyone is interested, after doing some searching, I figured out that the tool that is useful for prying open the headlight is called upholstery clip pliers or upholstery panel clip pliers. I plan to order a set today.
KD Tools 3705 Upholstery Clip Pliers - Amazon.com
KD Tools 3705 Upholstery Clip Pliers - Amazon.com
I've been recommended this tool at this end as well. Apparently it is "The Tool" that will open any headlight in a snap. Medent and another of my friend recently used it and were quite satisfied with it.
I've recently opened a few headlights for myself or friends' (actually, many). Below is some guidance I've given to a few who recently had to open their own headlights:
Headlight in the oven:
Start with
10 minutes @ 200F
, take it out, have a look & feel of it, let it cool down in your hands for 1~2min and give it another
5min @ 200F
. Wear gloves (hot!) and then start prying near the parking light side. Some said it's the easiest place to get it to budge. However I found out that every headlights is different. There is no magic spot. You have about 5-10 min between each pry attempt (cooling time). If you fail to get it to budge, STOP, and place it back in the oven for another
10min @ 175F
. At that point you'll start to lose patience and the elbow grease will start to develop! This is when ALL of my headlights pop open
Thanks mate, AND CONGRATS on the new little family addition!!!
I can be contacted via PM
edit: removed email address. don't do the same mistake... spam magnet lol
I personally don't hold any but know of someone who is currently retrofitting his turbo with those same projectors atm. Hopefully he will share of few pics when done
Those are crappy ADV.1 wheels and of course they only look good because of the CGT style projector I got on the front-end of the car
You should see the original (and miniature) 17" cheap cast turbo twist wheels that came with that car.... so so so sexy
they don't because of this Internet mirage thing, it's an illusion mate. Again, all caused by the reflection of those stunning Projectors
(I'll get a wheel/caps thread going on soon no panic)
I put everything together over the weekend and waited 24 hours for the silicone to set. This morning I installed them onto the car. Here's a photo. Sorry about the dirt. I think they look awesome.
Nick, this is not bad looking at all, actually quite posh
I like it very much
Man it's winter there huh. When you'll clean the 911 car (this spring?!) post more pics of the complete car. I'd love to see what those looks like on your champagne color Porsche
My cost was buying the light kit from Fred along with about $50 for supplies (paint, sandpaper, silicone, etc).
All in all it was really quite an easy and satisfying project. And the improvement in the lighting is exceptional. Highly recommended.
Agree, Fred made a really well done kit. For me it was well under USD $400 for the basic kit and silicone.
Unfortunately I broke a lens trying to remove it and had to purchase another used headlight for $230
Joseph, your 911 car looks completely transformed when looking at the before & after pictures. I love it. I sincerely hope that you are 100% happy with your new headlight look& feel and the better beam quality (visibility). If there is "anything" that I can help you with from this end, please do let me know anytime. You have my direct mobile contact number and email address.
Thanks for sharing pics and
very sorry
to hear about the trouble you had RE the lens. I can imagine how frustrating this was when it happened.
Best wishes to you and to all fellow Rennlist members for year 2014!!!
Fred
Nick, thanks for the feedback, I am so glad that you appreciate what went into this kit and had fun doing your retrofit. In fact they do very well outperform the litronics (sad story I know but true).
Change your bulbs (lookup: 35watts "H1" xenon /$20) every 36 months and you should have those shinning at full capacity at all time.
Anything you need from Shanghai beach, you know where to find me.
Best wishes to you and the family there mate. All the best for 2014!

Those angel eyes connects to the parking light circuit. Sweet and stylish set-up!
Yes, Charles in St-Joseph, MO, will be offering full retrofit services including warranty, spare parts and exchange schemes for the guys based in the USA and Canada. Charles also plans to have a few (NEW) Porsche headlight sets equipped with those high performance projectors and ready to ship. In case anyone fancy a brand NEW set of the best headlights around!
The whole idea is to offer the option to members to send their headlights by mail to St-Joseph to get them retrofitted professionally with a warranty.
Charles is known as member "Particleware" on 986forum.com
He can also be contacted via email at charlestolles [at] gmail
Have you thought about producing these for other type 911s? There is absolutely nothing available for the 964 which has
without-a-doubt
the worst headlamps ever produced! Owners tend to stuff a $100 HID bulb into an H5 housing which ends up blinding anyone stuck in front of them, even the H4 housing lacks the beam cutoff. So eventually they end up going back to a regular bulb.
Thanks for the intro, Fred
As Fred stated, I have been a member on that other 986 forum and a Boxster owner for about 2 1/2 years. Any retrofitting inquiries are welcome

I've got a few little mods up my sleeve to share with you all, like my DIY motion activated storage cubby lights (they turn on automatically when you reach your hand in). I got tired of fumbling around in there for my gum or ipod.

I just got my lights back yesterday. Here is a pic of my 996 with Fred's kit. It looks much better in person than in pictures I think. Charles (particlewave) did the retrofit for me. I didn't have time to do it myself and I am glad I didn't since he found a bunch of worn wires. He fixed everything for no extra money.
Thanks Ren! Glad to help out
These projectors look amazing on your 996!
For anyone interested, I'm offering a $50 price reduction on complete retrofit packages (total cost $550 + shipping).
See here for details.
Can someone solve the mystery of where do I buy these CGT light kits? I have a 2000 996 and looking to replace my halogen set. Love the look you all have posted but can't figure out where to buy them???
Hi - I'm completely not a DIY guy but I want to start learning.
Is this a mod that you would recommend for a newbie? I can get some help from a mechanic friend..
Also, how long does it take to mod the lights?
The toughest part is opening the headlight without destroying the outer lens, but the entire job is fairly involved. My first retrofit took almost a week, now they take me 10-12 hours (+24 hours sealant cure time).
That being said, it's not the most difficult thing to do, but I would not recommend this job for a newb.
They are many opportunities to destroy your lights during the job and you will if you're not careful.
Hi guys,
You can order the projectors through myself or Fred. My email is
[email removed]
, or you can PM me.
The cost of the kit is $355. If you aren't comfortable doing the retrofit yourself, the cost for the complete package (projectors and retrofit) is $550 +return shipping (usually $30-50 via FedEx).
No. Stock, the inner plastic headlight shroud is clear. Some paint black, some leave stock and some choose to color match to the car.
The pictures below show my car with the inner shroud painted with some off the shelf gloss white, just to see how it would look

Nick! Just passing by to say hi brother. Also to tell you that someone recently borrowed your idea and went for the same champagne you custom made for yourself
Hope all is fine with you and both of your families there (i.e. your love ones and the Porsche carS!)

I'd be interested to know what RL member "Alpine" has to say RE the following; wondering if he had time to install his new projectors in his (stunning) triple blk 996
Have a look at below. It is a visual of your headlight's circuit and a diagram of how the kit hooks up to it. If this all makes sense to you then you are good to go. High school 101 electronic really. The other bit required is to heat up your headlight into a oven for a 12-15min minutes @200 just so the manufacturer silicon soften a tad, pry with a flat tool, and pop you are done.
I've logged a few notes RE the installation. All written in Frenchglish sorry. If you have any question shoot me a PM or like Charles kindly offered, he can also do those for you in a flash
http://986forum.com/forums/366793-post82.html
Fred, glad things are going well.
With a newborn recently and 2 other toddlers, I'm hoping to go ape$hit on my car all at once sometime before the summer. But for sure I'll let you and RL know with an epic post that will include over a dozen mods at once. It's been far too long since my last mod.
whoa niceee car, color lives right up to the brand. Love it.
Hope you'll post a pic or two of the car when done. Nick refuses to wash his for a quick picture. But its understandable... the guy has more Porsche cars than I could own (afford?) in 3 lifetime. He wash/details one every month.... you have to wait 4-5 months to see a new pic from Nick lol
Nice to know who deals with Charles, he doesn't tell me. He did however specified the "special care" request on your kit. You are in good hands mate
it workedddd!
David, good to hear from you. Haha all sounds exiting on your side.... car mods, the little new addition, so busy you can't even swap a light (lol) etc etc. Nice one mate. Here new GP season started hard, drafting proposals all day long, for people that normally don't like to read
Was just pulling your leg. No comment on the above blk "highend" GT front-end simply means you are jealous in my view. But hey man no worries, you can't be more than I am about this car believe me (he has a 3.4 in, sport coilovers, brace link rods this & that, in that car. argg)
Your car came to mind when I first saw this pic. I could already hear you giggling i.e when you'll see yours with a similar looking front-end
Looking forward man... family first!
And a couple more...

I am planning on doing this retro soon but I am still thinking on the colors... I am leaning towards all black including painting the housing but I am not sure if its going to be "rice" in a yellow car... I dont want to purchase new headlights if I dont like the look. Has anyone done this in a yellow car?
IMG_0555_zps672841bb.jpg
Personally on yellow I think a combination of flat black areas along with some areas with black tint would keep it classy.
I myself am contemplating keeping the headlight bowls tinted instead of black. I'll dig up a pic that is similar and coincidentally on a yellow car when I get back from work

thanks for taking the time to do the photoshop, it cant get better than that... I dont know if I like the look of the black, im in between liking it or not.. What do you guys think? Does it look good on yellow?
Found the pic I was talking about. This is on an OEM litronic model but you can see its just slightly modified to keep it looking classy and OEM style. The edges have been blacked out along with the backing. But the headlight bowl and outer trim ring was left untouched. Makes it look aggressive but still keep with the OEM theme IMO.
Hi guys,
I've been following this thread and the one of 986forum, I've been wowed by these lights.
I was thinking of getting a pair of these as an upgrade to my stock lights, but as I live in Quebec, it needs to be DRL compliant.
Is there anyone here, from Quebec (or provinces with similar requirements) that has these? If so, did you have to do anything special to avoid troubles with the authorities ?
Thanks,
Herv
Hi Herv,
It's my understanding that the OEM DRL's use the low beam bulb in a low-power application, though I've had trouble getting any Canadian users to confirm this.
If I had some specifics on how the DRL's work, I could design something for you guys that would be plug-and-play. I admit that I haven't done much research on the topic, so I will do some searching, but any information that you could provide would be helpful.
1) which bulb is used for the DRL?
2) what is the voltage to it in DRL mode?
3) several pictures of the internal wiring would be of great use, specifically all of the bulb sockets and near the main connector.
My best guess is this;
A relay with a threshold of 9V. In DRL mode (6V?), the relay would be off and send power to a bulb placed in the highbeam socket as a DRL. When the voltage exceeds 9V (12V when headlight switch is on), power will be sent to the HID bulb.
Hi,
It seems to me that the low beam is used. this is a picture of the car with DRL only:
61TLAG7.jpg
Next, pics of the wiring:
reAjbc8.jpg
CEXL45g.jpg
I don't have the voltage. That said, I have found on the website of the SAAQ (Quebec crown corporation responsible for licensing drivers and vehicles) the following description of what DRL have to be (legally):
UnWD27d.jpg
That's all I could find for the moment but if more is needed, let me know.
Herv
Hmmm...those look fairly bright as far as halogens go. I wonder if it's the full low beam. Do they get brighter when going from DRL to low beam?
Side note: pictures below are my headlights (almost finished). Apologies if you all have seen these. I'm posting them everywhere
These are
not
for sale.

As long as the low beam is at full power in DRL mode, then it wouldn't be a problem. Need to confirm this, though.

hey guys,
I contacted Nine8Six, is it Fred? I want those light so bad on my 986. they will change completely the look of my burned lenses!!!
Thx,
Yannick
Guys,
Unfortunately, projector ordering is on hold for the moment. Fred is currently working on bringing the product to a larger audience via larger distributors and by sponsoring. They should be available again in the fall (perfect for winter retrofits).
Sorry for the delay. I will post specifics when I hear something.
Meares,
The units are based on the MH1 projector and are fairly versatile. That said, I don't know that anyone has attempted a retrofit on Mk2 headlights. A skilled retrofitter could do it, but it might be out of range for the average DIYer.
The kits are built around the MH1 projector, so are very versatile as far as install. It just a matter of how much room there is inside the headlight.
I've looked at many pictures of 993 headlights and they all seem to be projector headlights. Did they come in standard halogen? The pictures that I've seen of the internals of the 993 projector type headlight do not look ideal for a retrofit. There's not much room in there and the outer main lens is a diffused lens instead of clear, so you wouldn't really be able to see the projector, either.
The standard headlights for a 993 are projectors fitted with halogens. I have HIDs installed in mine but I feel that the light pattern and cuttoff isn't sharp enough. I would love to install a better performing projector into my 993 without having to go litronics. Alas, doesn't sound like it will be possible. I'm definitely in for one of these kits for my boxster tho!
Just a quick update guys, those custom CGT style bi-xenon projector kits for the 996 are still available for grab. If any of you guys are interested I'm ready to roll anytime.
Been a busy month of Aug and Sept so sincere apologies if I haven't kept up with RL members. I'll try to get updates coming this way as much as I do on the 986forum
All the very best to the crowd here at RL
Fred
New Luminoso Series, in full anodized black, custom laser script, and and, wait for it....
with Amber angel eyes! For the dark colored Pcars. Visual below but 100x better looking in person
I'll try to upload a few more from time to time
I for one would like to see some cutoff pics. I see lots of pics of them on the car but I would love to see what kind of output these have. Sorry if they've already been posted but I didn't read the entire thread. I'm a little suspect on their output.....do these use standard D2S xenon bulbs?
Hey Miles, in all honesty I haven't set any plans on the 996.2 type headlight yet. Many have asked for a Litronic "bi-xenon" conversion kit so I'll have to crack on this model before. Plans are to prototype a kit this winter for the Lit and if this goes well then I might as well do one for the MK2s. Stay tuned-in this thread to follow-up.
f.
Johnny, its nearly impossible to measure the lumen output by simply looking at cutoff lines - although fun to see I admit. Optics matters, bulb is... just a bulb! They are not DS2, I source out the best H1 xenon bulb available here e.g. those with the built-in AL sleeve. 280+ kits sold, not a single burned one (yet, fingers crossed lol)
Not a secret anymore.... the projector is based on the industry famous H1 mini style optic. A very special type and fine selected optic however!
Back in the days when the kit was at its prototype phase, we tried 11 (eleven) different variations of the H1 mini style optics. Most of those invented and manufactured in China, and I've even imported one variation from Europe (they call it something else there). Although all the same thing/size at different prices, some DOES perform MUCH better than others.
Tests that were carried were pretty basic but two that we were mostly interested in was the lumen output (obviously) but also heat management e.g. you do not want a thin optic made out of recycled aluminum... they create an excessive amount of heat (optic hotspots) and the coating will burn out in no time. Mate one of those with the popular "plastic" bezels available everywhere these days and most likely you'll need to change your lighting system yearly if you use the car as a DD (affordable eBay kit anyone?!)
The optic that my projectors are using were both designed & manufactured by a company called AES. The optic is slightly different (4mm wider), properly made out of 20xx grade aluminum, and the clear lens' radius is nearly 10% bigger than most of the others. Their optic also has a heat dissipation mgt system that frankly works flawlessly (see on the pic below, i.e. distributed extruded on the optic). (AES pattern registered). Not necessarily the cheapest, in fact it is the most expansive (true) optic you can find on the market atm. Now; one of those magic AES optic mated with my CNC aluminum bezel and shroud and there you have one of the best projector kit on the market today (aluminum dissipate heat 2000x faster than, plastic). Simple, Durable & Performing.
I have nothing against the other HID kits with plastic bezels you find here and there on the internet these days... some are great I'm sure. Although affordable it was just not my thing and not what my (& friends) Porsche cars would have wanted/needed anyway. Lit up Xenon gas is HOT and I just couldn't figure out how such a kit could possibly look good for years without flaking, discoloring or worst, deforming (melting).
Attached visual below is an lumen output comparison between a generic H1 mini style projector (won't name the manufacturer) and one from AES that are in use in my projector kit. Cutoff line is pretty meaningless performance-wise but again, its always fun to see and seems to be the Internet generic way-of-measuring-things so I've added a visual of this as well. Cutoff line is pretty industry standard e.g. LHD/RHD cutoff with a tint of fancy bluish phase.
Kit works.... some have already reported that they outperform some of the automakers' OEM projectors (BMW and Audi to name a few). And hey, they

RHD low beam cutoff line. Again, nothing fancy there... just the plain industry standard automotive lighting cutoff pattern:
Visuals visuals and more visuals.... A thread is boring without visuals!
Here goes some of the slides concepts I recently drafted for a website I am working on just so friends can grab them easy (warranty, support, paypal payment and other free-inside stuff). Has all the fancy featured turned-on lol
* Will do a spell check later, apologies for the Canuck frenchglish for now
I am very familiar with the "famous" H1 projector as I was around when the 1st gen. of these projectors were first released. I've been a member of HIDplanet for almost 10 years so again, very familiar with HID lighting. I agree that output shots have limited use for identifying the strength of the projector. It will however show light leakage, beam spread, hot spot and high beam spread...it not all about the lumens. The picture you posted, does it show 1275 lumens at the hotspot?
Hey Johnny! These projectors are bright as heck and will completely change the look of the front end.
Info and discussion of the MH1 is readily available to anyone with a search engine (check out "hid planet"), but I don't remember reading any complaints on either thread about these units
(most of us that are of driving age were around for gen1
)
Luv to Charles
Johnny is touched he can't switch-ON daylight when driving in the dark
Got the same, I wish there would be something out there that brights up every minutes I drive my little 2.5 boxster during night time... empty roads, high density air, objects moving faster around you.... ahhhhhhh (sorry.. out of context)
We've looked for a 'reasonable' alternative to burnt halogens or if not only for a simple front-end upgrade (pretty sick one I'd like to add). Believe me when I say I have the capacity to design a Quattro Projector kit with super fancy CREE Leds and all the other disco stuff you and your mates can imagine on your hid forum (day-light in a box for <$300). lol
The reality is; safety really. When designing headlights you equally need to keep in mind the incoming traffic's safety (could be me comin up the stretch lol), and of course ensure that the kit is heat manageable to call it a "safe go ahead" for some of the most expansive Porsche around (there is a $220k GT2 in AU being retrofit as I type). That's all there is to it in terms of 'biggies' mate... nothing really rocket science. 12k 15k 22k lumens or not... I've read somewhere that they surpasses the performance of the old Halogen in all aspects... and in all honesty that alone makes me want to stick behind this product
If anyone runs the 24hrs LeMans one day I can customize a 22k lumens kit (44k total). Cheap, promise, I work for Porsche Posters
Okay, not really sure what nine86 is trying to say but...not trying to start and argument here guys. I'm sure these are wonderful projectors, I'm just trying to figure out for my personal use whether I want to go this way or work with my OE lights and just do a clear lens swap. It would be nice to have comparos of the two
Either way, very sharp looking product 986....link to website?
Johnny, I was under the impression that you were looking for something as bright & hot as the sun
I had a go at your hid forum once or twice before and the feeling I got from the kids posting there was that they were mostly interested in max lumens instead of quality lighting systems. I also saw those cutoff pics everywhere, most of them illegally bright. In fact some gives you the impression that the light-output could be enough to strip the paint off those highway reflective panels. Scary stuff lol
A to your question: you can compare my projector kit as being far better than the OEM halogens -or- the equivalent of the Litronics in terms of performance. Added value is they are quality built, durable,
bi-xenon
and, can't say this enough... make Pcars look 10~15 years younger
Google "Luminoso Series Bi-Xenon projectors" and that should link you up mate
Apologies for the slow response Espanolie, and thanks for the note
The kit's mounting adapter was designed to facilitate the installation into the 996s style headlights. However I'm sure there are ways to adapt that same kit onto the 993 with little modifications to the headlight.
I am attaching the dimensions of the Vivo series below (without the 996 specific adpter kit). Step 1 would be to remove one of your 993 headlight and see if you have enough clearance for the projector. If so then I am happy to work with you and design an adapter kit specific for the 993 anytime.
For info the Luminoso and Turismo series shares very similar dimensions.
Let me know if I can be from any help
Fred
Hi, I restore Porsche cars and very interested in one of your kit for our 996. I found
www.gtprojectors.com
is this the site I need to buy them from?
Also I read somewhere that you can customize your projector, do you have more details on that?
Hey TK
Thanks! Items that you can quickly customize are:
Shroud color (e.g. depending whether you paint the interior of headlight black then this needs to match. If left OEM chrome then clear anodized (silver) is the way to go.)
Bezel anodized color.
Angel eyes -or- not (I can do those without angel eyes... equally stunning)
Angel eyes LED color (although white being the most popular, amber is earning second place on that list recently)
Xenon temp/color (4,300k being the ones that cuts rain and snow best, 6,000k being the fanciest one imo)
Above are the standard 'online' custom ready-to-buy options. Of course there are other custom services that I offer but those are evaluated and quoted onto a case-by-case basis mate (offline, PM me). I can design adapters for any types of headlights and/or modify the existing designs to match buyer's taste. However I do charge extra for these services :/
Example below:
Fellow 996 owner based in Bangkok, Steve, wanted "DRL style" angel eyes (e.g. max output, super bright) and wanted the bezel to match a theme that he hand-draw, scanned and sent me in a JPG format. Below came out for him in the Vivo series style optic. I charged him +100$ for the extra work.... unfortunately CNC machines work coordinates changes, needs additional CAM programming (gcode) and of course 3d model also need to be reworked a tad. Not exactly the cheapest kit but well justified and fair (I think!).
Let me know if you have any questions or specific requirements, I'm happy to work those out with you
ps; yea that site addy is correct. Although still in construction you can certainly give it a go anytime (PayPal ready)
Below was the AE pattern we came out with for Steve. Although very nice those are 'extremely bright'. Not my thing but some may like it
I personally prefer the dotted pattern... unique, softer, doesn't flood the headlight with LED light etc... all depending on taste really
So back to your question: yes, fully customizable!
ps. Steve is cool with me posting this no worries. Visuals are already online on other forums both here in SH and BK. We've beaten up this AE thing a lot already lol
Amber color angel eyes (now this looks sort of okay lol):
I don't atm but should have those coming out this coming winter when I'm done prototyping on the mk2 style headlight. Litronic first however (few waiting for those already). I'll try doing both at the same time. In fact you aren't the first to ask so I'll gear up on that promise
+1 ... I'm the first to admit that I don't know a hell of a lot about cutoff patterns or lumen output, but I see a lot better at night with the nine8six/Particlewave conversion than I ever did with the stock halogens. Seems like there's a small-but-noticeable difference in the low beams and a big-and-really-noticeable improvement in the high beams. Nice look, also.
Pic stolen from another thread... let's just hope the owner (Tommy) doesn't find out
I try hard to not use others' car pictures but this one, I'm sorry but I just couldn't resist. Bad bad bad me!
Happy autumn everyone!
[QUOTE=Nine8Six;11698726]Hey TK
Thanks for your reply. I gotta pull the trigger on the Luminoso in gun metal I think
One more question do you include installation instructions with the kit?
[QUOTE=timekeeper;11745534]
Kits comes with no instructions but it should really. The reason I am not including any is possibly because of the thread we have on the other forum. There is a lot of info and visuals related to the installation already there so I got lazy and didn't bothered doing an official installation manual. Beside, many out there have far better DIY skills than I have so I wouldn't want to make a fool of myself proposing anything that many can do better (made a lot of that already with my broken Frenchglish lol). Since you mention, I'll see if I can put something together - at the cost of 'paying' someone to help me out with this :/
In a meantime, PM me is you are unsure about anything you'll find on the other thread. Already have a few visuals of the installation on my hdd that I think I'm fine with sharing around. Beside, surely Charles, myself and anyone who've carried out that retrofit will be happy to support if you have any installation concerns or questions - just post up in the thread (on 986forum or RL). You also got my mobby # on the GTP site as backup... I'm cool with that and available no worries there. skype does pretty cheap calls these days
RE your Luminoso... yea those are sweet, aggressive looking tho. Mandatory for any seriously modded pcars is this is what you have there (wow effect guaranteed x100)
Gunmetal are the best I agree. Not alone however.... I've posted this visual below on the other forum while ago and one good fella went on and got them a week ago - same, same laser script. Goes on a blk-on-blk 996 with silver trims (he is borrowing Norm's car custom painted idea). These stealthy babes are on my table atm.... I'll see if I can take a few real0life shots tonite or before the postal guy kidnap them from me this weekend. Some amber porsche theme ideas for you....
Charles, they look splendid mate, clean shots! Is it just me or those kinda look good (better?) when the interior of the headlight is left stock?
Below is the stealthy boyz. Beware those "Amber" aren't DRL type angel eyes.... more of a night time event show-car feature. I've left the flash ON for one shot, the one with the super high-tech assembly line (and Made-in-China Snicker bars), to show that they are about 25% of the brightness of let's say the white angel eyes. Smooth, rather useless in day time but looks insane after 1800!
They are also sort of a continuity of that traditional Porsche amber cluster/dash accessories amber lighting. They are almost identical color one wouldn't make any difference if not told.
Again, perhaps not for all boxster/911 cars out there but fully compatible if you have a dark color modded pcar e.g. that mean looking 911, performance wheels.... black interior, amber dash lights etc... you get the picture
Man I gotta quit looking at this thread as it will want to make me get the newer versions. Those all look great. With tight basement remodel that needs to get done before end of the year, must concentrate and resist car mod urges...
Fred don't worry, still plan on doing this mod but 3 kids and basement remodel has priority and I'd rather take my time and do the headlight mod right.
These lenses are 100% NEW. Very sharp!
I agree about the interior.
Black looks cool now, but will it in a few years?
OEM interior looks amazing and always will!
Love those amber Luminosos!!!
Time for some more car ****!

Sorry about the dirty car. I've been busy...
David - com'on young kids are easy and fun to raise. If you think they are complicating things now wait in 15 years :P They're good fun! Renovation sux and time consuming I agree though :/ sorry to hear that
RE your headlight; almost sounds like you have no choice but to send them to Particlewave. If really what you fancy is a retrofit done 'right' then I can't think of anyone else in-the-entire-world atm. Charles did quite a few dozen pcar retrofits so I have a pretty good feeling you are in very (very) good hands there. Priceless imo
Or hire some painters for the renovation and just crack on with it dunno man. You know as much as I do that those are effective even when the car is parked (you'll freak out... want to keep the car another 10 years etc lol). Not entirely sure what you r waiting for
For your mk1 kit, we can change it no worries at all with that. Free, you pay for the materials and snail mail and it's done really. Nobody goes cold here at RL. In fact you have the kit in hands already, you just need to get a newer bezel.
Can wait in all honesty...
tc
I am seriously thinking of going with this upgrade since my OEM lights are almost useless at night driving. I am on the verge of making a purchase of the kit, but has anyone here in Southern California had this upgrade done to their vehicle?? If so, where did you have it done and what did it cost
Any response or suggestions are much appreciated
Found these chaps south of L.A. Shouldn't be a too-far drive out for you. From their FB pages they appear to be well established in the headlight retrofits business.
No affiliation. Shoot them a quick email for RFQ. Sure they'll be willing to take the job - if the price is right. Happy for you to pass my contact details if they need to get in touch.
edit: Links removed. Wrote to these guys using their web contact addy and never got an answer so I'll have to remove the links/reference to them. Not the kind of outcome I'd like to anyone to experienced
CHARLES is the man. That I am sure 100% about... no question there
I'm assuming you don't have kids or have a nanny? Lol
My basement is a full gut job with new walls, electrical, plumbing, the whole nine yards. I wish it was just paint.
I'm doing most of it myself after going through 5 contractors.
If I were doing a standard retrofit, Charles would've already had my lights by now. I'm working on something "different" that can't be rushed. It's a good thing I at least have the Factory Litetronics on my car already in the mean time.
You are the man in terms of support and communications. Everyone on RL should know that and shouldn't hesitate to pull the trigger. Pre/After sales support, great product, communication. I think this hits all the marks for RL members. I'll let you know on the bezel once I finalize my last design iteration.
It's important to note that Fred(nine8six) doesn't just offer any bixenon lights with these kits. He offers one of the best ones out there and is always offering up what ever the best is at the time. You'll easily gain 200-300 additional lumens going with his or any other top shelf lenses vs. some of those lower quality generic ones out there.
Also to note the lower quality units have less robust and cheap high beam solenoids that typically do not last long either. You may have noticed this on some aftermarket bixenon retrofitted cars where one of the scatter shields is stuck open on one side. Most people assume it's poor or incorrect headlight aiming when half the time it's really a stuck or broken solenoid.
Guys, my apologies for letting you guys down :/ I've assumed that those of you interested in this kit knows where to find me (986forum.com) but that's not right. Sorry about that
The latest NEWS is Pelican Parts will be taking over the retail of those in spring 2015. I quit lolll
I am closing shop (retailing) on March 1st so if you want to purchase one of those kit from me you have 48hrs left!
www.gtprojectors.com
If you are not in a rush, Pelican Parts will advertise those shortly for you guys so no worries
Below are some of the last kits I'll be doing for fellas here and on 986forum. Sitting on the workbench atm and shipping over this coming weekend!
I'll update as soon as I hear from Pelican Parts, their catalogue, links to kits etc.
^ Black & Blue Turismo kits, Orange Luminoso, Gunmetal, etc etc avail in any colors really
Some pics from Vancouver, owner fella 986forum member Martin(fintro)
Pcar front-end updated with the Luminoso Series, white AEs. And a pic of what appears to be night turned into day. They're not only pretty... they actually work loll
My luck… I just discovered this thread and would very much like to purchase your kit. I checked at Pelican Parts web site but there is no mention. ANy chance of one last purchase?
Ditto. I have an 03 C4S (Mk2), and I'd like to put a set of the VIVOs on my car, if a kit for the Mk2 has been developed.
I will send an Email to Charles as well, as he may have further info: But anyone who has some recommendations here, please share.
Great looking upgrade.
Yes, we have them in! We are currently populating them into our parts catalog now. I will be posting a thread for them once I get links and the green light that they're in our catalog.
We do have a few that are populating now, but as you can see they aren't very detailed in their listings below. There is only about 6 of them in house right now.

Unfortunately I am not quite sure yet. Guesstimating maybe 1-2 hours depending on the shop? We will definitely be adding hours, cost, and parts needed in the DIY when we post it so once I get that information I can let you know. Keep an eye out too because I'll be posting up a thread releasing this product soon and hopefully I'll have those types of specs by then as well.
-Luccia
There is a link to the instructions on that page. It is a major operation, not something that I would attempt. In fact they highly recommend having a professional do it.
We will be writing up a DIY tech article for the install of these, but yes, if aren't comfortable with it we do recommend a professional do the install.
That would be a question for the manufacture. Unfortunately, I am not sure if there are future plans for making them compatible for the 964, but I can most certainly find out if you'd like.
Last I checked Pelican had the kits, but I'm not aware of any professionals that can/will perform the actual upgrade.
If anyone knows of someone that will perform the task (I think I'd **** up the heating and removal of the clear plastic covers), please disseminate the info. There was one gentleman that was doing upgrades using the original inventor's kits, but its not clear that he still does.
correct me if i'm wrong... all i need to buy is 1 pair of the VIVO Series GT Projector Headlight Retrofit Kit, Black and it comes with all I need to install, bulbs, wires, etc etc for $370???? I don't need to get anything else?
The kits include everything you need to retrofit them into your headlights:
Projector Bezels (2)
35w ballasts (2)
H1 HID Bulb (2)
Angel Eye Voltage Regulators (2)
Yes, for all 996 and 986 models. There is an extensive thread linked at the Vivo Black Retrofit Kit link that has lots of information from people who have already installed them.
@PelicanParts :
Hello, any news for a eventual model to upgrade the Litronic ?
Or, another one do you expect to receive a pair of "Vivo" in red ?
(I that cas, I would go in the "market" to find a pair of OEM headlights (base) ..and end up with two interchangeable sets !
Thanks
Hello! Unfortunately, no word on the Litronic or when stock will be available at this time. I posted the only set of projectors that we have in stock currently above.
Good Morning
I am the proud new owner of a 2001 Boxster Base Model
I love the look of these projector lights. I would like to install this kit including new clear housing. I want to eliminate the amber look.
Any suggestions on where and cost to purchase to have new modern look.
Thanks
GLEN
So I have this projectors in my 2001 Boxster S (i think it may actually be the Zanzibar ones in the original post on this thread). I can't get any new bulbs for the things. The H1 bulbs would theoretically fit, but the base of the bulb is too wide to fit into the enclosure. Any thoughts or suggestions? I inherited the projectors when I bought the car (used) and I am just not sure how to fix this
Sold the last Turismo and Vivo series we had in stock a few weeks again. No stock currently on any projector. Hoping to get more sometime in the near future. Will update once we have stock.
Well, my feeling about Pelican is kind of "strange" :
The 14 of April, finding a set of Vivo GM on stock, I placed an order.
(****7517-538),and paid right away with Paypal.
But some days later, (the 19th of April), I got an email that said "..Unfortunately, we recently discovered that one or more of the parts you ordered are No Longer Available (NLA). These are:
GT-VIVO-GM
Your order has been canceled at this time.
This is all but not very serious !
Do you have another distributor, ..that we can trust ?
Hello GVA. We did have a set of Vivo in stock that month and it seems that someone may have grabbed the last one before you, depleting our stock. All of our GT projectors are currently out of stock currently. I do apologize for the inconvenience and we will update this thread when stock is available again. Please let me know if you have any questions.
+1, I have a halogen-equipped 03 C2. A set of these would make a great winter project while the C2 is quasi-hibernating during snowy periods. No rush but I did read the whole thread and will have a sad face if this mod doesn't come to pass!
We are in touch with the vendor right now and hopefully will have stock on these items in the near future. I'll report back when I have more information in regards to a timeframe for you all.
^^^^
Please keep us updated. These look great.
I don't know if I'm personally up to the task regarding the installation, but, I'd like to get a set.
Mike
Retrofit Source is great. I have used them several times for other cars. Retrofitting HID projectors into 996 headlights requires you to open the headlights, and I am a little timid about baking and splitting $2000.00 worth of headlights...
+1 but Retrofit source only sells the bulbs, not the projectors. The projectors are what you need to install HID into a non-Litronic 996 headlight.
the only reason to split open 996 halogen headlights (which are worth $200-400, not $2000) is to install a custom projector that was being offered in this thread. I bought these custom projectors several years ago with ballasts and bulbs (see post 25 of this thread), and the light output was way better than stock 996 halogens.
LOL you didn't get the memo?
j/k
you didn't specify 996.2 headlights. the only 996.2 headlights I see on ebay (admittedly a very quick search) shows they all have
projectors
; whether they have HID bulbs is unclear. My original 996.1 had halogen headlights with
reflectors
. big difference.
so (based on my limited reading) there isn't a reason to crack open 996.2 headlights with
projector
housings; all you need is bulb and ballast.
So, I agree that all 996.2 housings have projectors...but not all projectors are HID projectors, and the Hella E55 HID projectors that are in the 996.2 are...crap.
I would love to swap out the E55s with something more modern, wider, sharper, and brighter, but I am too much of a chicken to risk breaking the covers. I wish I had the time and skill to make new Lexan covers for the lights, and a 3d printer big enough to print new housings. Oh the headlights I would make.
Where do we go to order from you Fred?

Not to rub it in or anything, but I bought a set from him 3-4 years ago. One of the best mods I've ever done. With bi-xenon headlights and LED tail lights, my '99 looks at least 10 years newer. Too bad he's not still around.
Nine8Six hope youre still around and life is well. Just wondering if you can provide me the info to try to get the amazing retrofit you made.
Thank you.
This also does the trick

for 996.2 the light does not to be dismanteled.
there is also one available for 996.1 but it needs the known method where the lamp lens has to come off.

Please Note: the retrofit labs 997.1 kit does not look finished as the reflector and the silver lining is not reused. without those, the finish look with the lights off (during daylight) is not going to look very finished. The night time lighting is an improvement for both kits but, the retrofit labs 997.2 kit does not include the illuminated beauty ring (a big cosmetic reasons for changing).
Not true!
The kit fits 996.
I know peoplewho have done it including installing a led ring. It comes close to what you refer to.
for example this for a boxster
