Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Can the system after the headers be dropped as one piece?

POST 2Original post

I guess that depends on how much of the car your wanting to take apart. I can take the factory mufflers out in 10 minutes as long as it’s on a hoist, don’t even need to take the wheels. The crossover cat section takes 5 mins to remove. Not really sure what your trying to accomplish?

POST 3Original post

Quotes source post: 15082299

Probably, but there wouldn't be much point. The system comes apart pretty easily and is designed to be fairly modular, so it seems simpler to take out in pieces. Remove the mufflers first, and then the cats. You'll need to disconnect the O2 sensors to remove the cats.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I'm pulling the motor. Bumper, heat shields and wheels are off. If I could leave it intact and drop it with out undoing everything it would save time, no?

POST 5Original post

Easiest to drop the engine with the entire exhaust attached to the engine. Then remove the 3 bolts on each side at the the header to cat flange, and the clamp at the engine carrier. This will leave the exhaust in 2 large pieces. No need to break them down further than that.

POST 6Original post

In my experience, having just removed mine this past winter, I don't think it will save you any time. I've found that trying to wrestle assemblies like this is false economy and in the end, faster to just take it apart and make it easy on you. Its a simple system with few parts, so any savings of time would be very small.

POST 7Original post

The flip side is that then you are dealing with two heavy awkward shaped components. I find it easier to remove the mufflers and catalytic converters, leaving the headers on the engine. For me, taking the exhaust system out as one piece would be a false economy.

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Always fun when the hardest of the 3 bolts (on the flange) to get to are rounded off by someone else previously.

POST 9Original post

I got quite a bit of use of my exterior E-Z outs when taking my exhaust apart. My suggestion would be to save yourself time and aggravation and just cut the ones that dont easily unscrew - you may have come to this conclusion already. But all new stainless steel hardware and be liberal with the high temp (copper based) anti-seize !

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

All apart now and will be upgrading it's hardware. Im am have difficulty getting the steering lines apart and am waiting on a couple of 19mm crows foot attachment I had to order. My set goes up to 18mm and skips to 22mm, none of the parts stores had a 19mm... Thanks!
