My reason for needing to separate these is that I am using the bottom for the passenger side and the back for the driver's side.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I found a good shape front passenger seat on ebay. It raises the following question: I know I can use the lower (seat portion) as planned, which is to replace a worn passenger lower (seat). My question is, are the backs (upper portions) interchangeable (that is, might I be able to use a passenger back portion to replace my worn driver side back portion? Thanks for your advice. Andy T

POST 2Original post

But would not the latch which allows the back of the front seat to fall forward, to access the back seats, be on the wrong side?

POST 3Original post

Quotes source post: 12011456

If you are going to replace the upper and lower isn't that the whole seat? The backs are interchangeable - according to part number. But there are different leathers and options so it can get a little complicated. And there are levers on both sides of the seats.

Hurdi, Go take a look at your car. It has the latches on BOTH sides of each seat...

[QUOTE=frisbee91;12012131]Hurdi, Go take a look at your car. It has the latches on BOTH sides of each seat... Gees i never thought to check. You are correct.

POST 6Original post

I was kind of surprised the first time I noticed that too!

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks fellas. Just got the new (used) seat and separated bottom from seat back. Looks like it will work fine. Thanks for your help. Andy T

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

While I separated the seat back from the seat bottom on the new seat (incoming seat), I am having considerable difficulty separating the seat back from the seat bottom on the outgoing seat. My reason for needing to separate these is that I am using the bottom for the passenger side and the back for the driver's side. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks, Andy T

POST 9Original post

There's a DIY thread on the site somewhere about separating the back from the botton--just read it recently but didn't bookmark it, unfortunately.

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post
