Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

16 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Yesterday I had a shop here in Las Vegas cover the bumper, fenders, hood, and mirrors with a product called EXPEL. Supposedly this is the latest and greatest of the coverings available today. The film is supposed to heal itself if a rock dings it by just being in the sun, a pretty wild claim but it managed to sell me. In any case it came out perfect, its as clear as can be and can't be seen. I am so happy with this car so I'm trying to keep it running and looking new as long as possible. I had the bumper painted and the bumper holes filled a month ago.

POST 2Original post

Looks great! You certainly can't tell there's anything on there...

POST 3Original post

I'll dash your hope just a bit, I also have XPEL top level Ultimate film installed 3 years ago, the self-healing feature is only for microscopic surface scuffing, not when a rock hits it, no film will remain undamaged when a rock hits the film at road speed. It's a great film product, my installer who has been doing this for 10 years is considered one of the top installer in this area, and had worked for Porsche dealerships, says it's the easiest film he has worked with compared to 3M and VentureShield. He wraps the film around and behind the edge of the body panels so even at close inspection the film is not visible.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

It doesn't dash my hopes very much as I was pretty sure the self healing feature was some kind of BS. Now that I've got this there will be something new that comes out that will claim even more benefits. I had some kind of 3M stuff on a 63 split window vette I had a few years ago and it worked fine, if this works as good I'll be happy.

POST 5Original post

Don't get me wrong, the XPEL Ultimate is a great film, it's as clear as PPF comes, almost no one believes me at our Saturday morning car and coffee meet that the entire front end of my car is covered with this film, even when they are within a couple of feet, and that's exactly why I paid a premium for not only the film, but one of the best installer to do the work.

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I think I paid a premium also. It was twelve hundred and fifty dollars for hood, bumper, front fenders, and mirrors. The guy that owns the shop did mine on Saturday which was a help for me, it took most of all day. He does full body coverings for the LAMBO dealer here in vegas, he had 7 of them in his shop. I don't know how good he is in the world of covering guys but he did a great job on mine. Its nice to keep it looking new for as long as possible so it was worth it to me.

POST 7Original post

If it won't self-heal you might check to see if the algorithm needs an update.

POST 8Original post

I too have the same one on my car but its partial. Its full bumper, half hood and fenders, mirrors and headlights. I had 3M before this and it was slightly thicker then XPEL. But the best part they gave me 10 years of warranty on parts and labor.

POST 9Original post

Around these parts (Seattle), it costs $2195 to get a full front mask with Xpel. That covers: head/fog lights, mirrors, front bumper, full fenders and full hood. I cheaped out and paid $995 for partial fenders and partial hood. It is good stuff though - I have the full front mask on my E550 and it has held up very well.

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

They also did the headlights on mine. I guess 1250 dollars is a better price than I thought if some places are charging 2200 for the same thing.

POST 11Original post

I just did my 997TT and it was $1200 for front grill, full hood, full front fenders, mirrors, lights, A-Pilars.

POST 12Original post

All I know is that car looks super clean. If I were the PO I'd be proud.

POST 13Original post

I saw a demonstration at SEMA last year of a clear bra product which I think was Expel where the guy took a wire brush to a section of film, scratched it all up, then took a heat gun and removed them. Looked perfect after the heat application.

Exactly, simple scratches I can take out myself with my random orbital and $10 polishing compound. I'd rather just get my front bumper repainted every few years if stone chips happen. Here's a quote from Xpel:

POST 15 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 12093737

I had the front bumper painted and after the first trip to Los Angeles from here and back it already had rock chips. It was 800 bucks to paint the bumper the first time and it lasted two weeks. I think the EXPEL will work better for me even if it doesn't really heal. I had a 63 vette that I made about 20 trips to LA in and it had a different clear bra on it but it lasted just great. If this one does the same I'm more than happy.
