Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. They replaced a battery for me within the 36 months one time.
Leading evidence: 'Replace battery' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'better choice' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Recommend agm or at least a sealed battery' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

I ran into this issue when I first got my car and ended-up having to replace the battery even though it was fine with a smaller one so I could use the factory tie down.

Im about to replace my dead battery on my 2001 996, Im going to probably get it done in the next few days and am leaning towards an AutoZone H6-DLG battery.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Im about to replace my dead battery on my 2001 996, Im going to probably get it done in the next few days and am leaning towards an AutoZone H6-DLG battery.
It sells for $151.99 specs are:
*600 (EN) Cold cranking Amps (950 cranking Amps)***. 72 Ah reserve minutes. Warranty consists of 3 years free replacement plus 2 years prorated.
Im thinking this fits the bill and I should be good to go for a while...
Any other suggestions or other recommendations?
Ps. I am in the Western Suburbs of Chicago... so only local stores please.
I just replaced mine. I was told my 02 takes an H7 battery not H6.
Either way , if you call triple A , they will come to you and install the battery( I asked and had them install an H7) for $140 . 36 months replacement , and I think 2 more years pro rated.
If it needs to be replaced, again they come out to you to do so
Driver told me it was an interstate battery , although not marked as such.

Can't say enough good things about AAA, although it was on other cars. They replaced a battery for me within the 36 months one time. No charge, no problem. Another time I thought I had a battery problem. They checked it and said battery was fine instead of just trying to sell me something that wasn't needed. Two thumbs up for AAA.
Autozone is usually the cheapest place in town, and a battery is generally (as long as you're buying a plain old lead-acid battery) just a battery.
Bring a socket set with you and pull the old battery out so you can walk in, plop it on the counter, and get your new battery. Otherwise, you have to mess with the extra trip to recover the core charge deposit.
I just did mine with an H6 AGM from Advance Auto Parts.
Your car can fit either H6 or H7, there's a movable bracket that locks it in that's designed to accept different sizes. Advaned has a 30% off coupon floating online that makes it a good deal cheaper than your price.

- $114.79 plus tax, after coupon. That's the best deal I could find on a quality replacement when I did it.

There are differences in materials and QC. I haven't had good luck in Autozone batteries before but that was a few years ago. It could've changed now.
I have an Interstate in mine. Excellent warranty and service. After 2 years I had a cell go bad during a track day. They gave me a new battery to use while they tested mine and then exchanged at no cost.
I'm a fan of using as big a battery as you can fit. I went with this:
http://www.pepboys.com/product/details/9073755/01487
It's a Bosch which as far as I'm aware of has the best warranty available. It's a size 49 which means they will need to move the mounting bracket over one notch to fit it (pepboys includes this in the price). When it's in though it'll look like it was meant to be there
Stay original and get one of these -

Only $1700!! There is no substitute!
(I got my AGM battery at Sears. Fits perfect and works great.)
Size 48, H7 & 49 will fit. There are three positions in the mounting plate. The two "smaller" positions have threaded holes the third no threads, fits 49, needs a nut & bolt.
No matter which size you settle on I recommend an AGM or at least a sealed battery. That way the danger of spilling acid onto the cowl are reduced/eliminated.

I replaced an Interstate MTP-H7 With a Braille 7548 AGM battery - direct replacement.
Braille has become outrageously priced lately. Sears or Bosch is probably a better choice.

Keep in mind if you are going to track your ride, you'll most likely need the factory tie downs to pass tech. I ran into this issue when I first got my car and ended-up having to replace the battery even though it was fine with a smaller one so I could use the factory tie down.

Thanks to all the reply's!
I took out the old battery and it is the smaller of the three sizes available. (Uses the first threaded hole)
I plan on upgrading to the medium size today and get her all hooked up tonight when I get off from work! (Gonna use the Second threaded hole)
I just need to figure out who has what and at what price around me and thanks to all the suggestions yesterday I have some good info to work with!
Two quick pics of the old battery... looks really clean... but dead as a door nail!
She could not keep up with our COLD Chicago winters...
+1
That's what I've been using for the last six years or so and it's been fine. I'm not aware of anything special about the 996 batteries that would warrant a lot more thought on the topic from me.
Groundhog Day refers to the movie where things keep happening over and over again.
Battery threads are like oil threads in that there are many opinions and no right or wrong.
Got it!

I am looking for any suggestions and or recommendations from people on this forum that have done this before and that might have a good idea of how to make our cars better. I am not looking to rehash anything in this thread... If I was I would ask about my "Special Bearing..."
To that affect... I will be upgrading from a H6 battery to a H7 battery.
Thanks to everyone with the great info they gave me!
