- Stock 99 C2 996, replaced regulator assembly 6 months ago with no problems, and has worked fine.
Leading evidence: 'Replace regulator assembly 6 months ago' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check battery or' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Also, check all fuses, I think there are four for window operations.

Now if that doesn't work, maybe disconnecting the negative lead from the battery for 20 minutes, then reconnecting and performing a limit reset will work.

Thanks Joe, yes I went through the reset/teach procedure when I changed the regulator 6 months ago, and then I repeated it recently - unfortunately no change...

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

- loose main connector to window motor, popped it on and all back to normal.
Good day - have a problem that I don't understand - apologies if this is addressed elsewhere, I have looked.
- Stock 99 C2 996, replaced regulator assembly 6 months ago with no problems, and has worked fine. In the last 3 weeks the window goes down Ok, although I cannot stop its downward motion in any way, and once it is down it refuses to go back up. If I cycle ignition, no different, but if I turn off for 12 hours at least, then it will go up again, sometimes. I switched the leads on the back of the window rocker switches - no different. Is there a relay somewhere that controls the actions of the window motor? As it cannot be stopped in it's downward motion I am wondering if there is a relay somewhere that controls this, and is getting stuck? Anyone else come across this?
One simple thing to try is to "re-teach" the window. When it is the full up position, hold the window button down for 10 seconds. (What I mean is keeping pushing on the up button and hold for 10 seconds). Then when it is full down, hold the window button in the down position for 10 seconds. That is supposed to reset the up/down position so the window knows where it is.
Thanks Joe, yes I went through the reset/teach procedure when I changed the regulator 6 months ago, and then I repeated it recently - unfortunately no change...
You mean where the relay would be? - Not sure, my 996 book does not mention a window relay at all, that's why I'm trying to see if anyone else had this problem, or can shed any light on this. There must be a control somewhere for the window motor, but damned if I can find it....
The window limit settings are stored in the ECU. I was slightly off in describing how to reset the limits. Push the button and raise the window to the limit, release, and then push on it again and hold for 5 seconds. Same for the lower limit, drop to the bottom, release, and then push the button and hold. Now if that doesn't work, maybe disconnecting the negative lead from the battery for 20 minutes, then reconnecting and performing a limit reset will work. Other than that, it might be a intermittent connection to the power window motor. Check all connections, unplug and plug them in several times to clean the connections. Check the door ground wire. Does the window drop when the inside/outside door handle is pulled? Those are microswitch problems. In the end, it could be a bad power window motor that just doesn't work right.
This is a good explanation of the door microswitches -

Also, check all fuses, I think there are four for window operations. Also, strange gremlins emerge when the battery has low voltage and is going bad. Check your battery or replace. Also, since much of the functions of the microswitchs depend on whether a key is in the ignition or not, a bad ignition switch has been known to cause weird malfunctions.
Thanks Joe, appreciate the ideas - after trying everything else, decided to take door panel off, and voila! - loose main connector to window motor, popped it on and all back to normal. So simple yet so confounding! - Thanks again
