Again...NOT trying to say the Aero kits later installed with factory parts are any less beautiful than mine, but I'm trying to understand what I really have for the knowledge/history and value of my vehicle...

you know i didn't realize this until today, looking at renntech i ran into a thread he posted on, but Ben also got banned from renntech
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Its been over 2 years since Benjamin Choi created A thread dedication to MK1 aeros.
https://rennlist.com/forums/996-foru...mk1-aeros.html
Currently at 19 pages and 15,000 views, its become a classic thread on this forum.
Sadly, nobody has ever started an equal thread to celebrate the mkII aerokit 996 (factory option XAA Cup Aerokit II available in 2003-2004). The MkII aero Carreras are rarer than the MkI, but weve got a few lurking around here (Mark G, Im talking to you).
So here it is: Show some love. Post up your best pics of 02-04 full-aerokit Carreras. Any color, any wheels, any country, C2, C4, C4S, modified, whatever just keep it to (OEM or similar) full aerokit Carreras... no GT3s please (they have their own dedicated forum already). Does not have to be your own car. Just a good photo.
Ill start with a few: Mine and a couple snaps I stole off the intertubes.
Go!
OK - comment... the first car is OMG Beautiful to die for
something wrong with the second one (or the pic angle/crop what ever)
3rd one looks like a NJ car
4th - aw, not so much
What's the Ben Choi joke all about?? It seems connected with wheels similar to the above posting???
I gather he was banned and was an annoying gadfly on the forum?
The Mk2 aeros look pretty nice also!! Good idea for the thread!
Yes, but what are Ben Choi wheels? Wheels as described in the opening post of the Mk1 aero thread hes started? I've seen "Ben Choi wheels" on a couple of postings.
Why did he get banned? I read some of his posts and didnt note anything in particular, albeit annoying or somewhat obnoxious, but not offensive enough to be banned.
He occasionally had problems playing nice with the other Rennlist inmates. This problem was not unique to Rennlist as he also got banned from 6speedonline.
I guess some people never learn. So what's the deal with Ben Choi and Wheels then?
I guess, I have the Ben Choi wheels, because one of the pics he posted in the original Mk1 aero thread (the silver one in the parking garage) was my car before I bought it (or at least it is identical). Is that a bad thing? I would probably have gotten different wheels like BBS's and a 1" narrower rim, but they do look pretty good, and have definitely received compliments on them.
The problem Ben had was typically of egocentrism. He had a fundamental problem in seeing ANYTHING any way other than his. Therefore, if your particular taste in wheels, women, mods, etc, didn't match his, then he let you know it and very classless.
For example, your B!TCH is fat, those wheels are ghetto, those mods are so ricer, etc, etc, etc,......
you know i didn't realize this until today, looking at renntech i ran into a thread he posted on, but Ben also got banned from renntech
i didn't think anyone's been banned from frickin renntech
for my part I enjoyed Ben's presence, he was the yin to our collective yang. He and I disagreed on nearly all things, from style to doing your own work to you name it, but I still appreciated his passion for cars.
RE: the "Ben Choi Wheels", Ben was very particular about wheels, and wouldn't have been caught dead in anything south of a champion rg5, as he would often remind prospective wheel buyers. If those wheels weren't minimum $5K before tires, they don't get the title
Wow, going after other people's women and calling them fat. That is pretty bad. I see what you mean.
I must say, overall, this forum is better behaved then some other ones. It does seem a lot more civil.
Yeah, it was bad. We usually are a very respecting bunch when in comes to each individual personality and taste in how they dress up their car, what oil to use, if IMS exists
, bling, etc.. The debates have always (even with Ben) been great banter. The problem was he didn't understand the difference between disagreeing with somebody and attacking somebody personally.
Ah oil,
I can see why he would get worked up over that. That's a highly personal issue, everyone knows only people with severe character flaws use something other then Castrol synthetic 15/50.....LOL.
Forget Ben..... post up some Aero's.... lets see if the Mk2 aero guys are as passionate as the Mk1 aero crowd... do I here 20 pages? Nice pics fellas, keep it going!
One of my faves.
Focus people, focus...
Randy's decklid is a factory item: it was called the "Carrera rear spoiler" and was a seperate stand-alone option. Unlike the Cup Aerokit II it was not paired with skirts and a new nose, but some people preferred the subtler Carrera wing to the Cup II wing and added skirts and the nose later. It's all good.
Hey, Look! Here (
http://www.champagnechevrolet.com/Ve...ails/689014413
) is a mkII aero for sale at a Chevy dealer in CT. It's um... Optimisticaly priced, but the Chevy guys' website says it's RARE so you know it must be worth it!
I'm sure they won't mind us borrowing their pictures for this thread... although I must say the huge "Body Shop" sign in background is a subliminal marketing FAIL.
very nice.
and if you dont have one and want to make it look like aero car.
i have oem GT3 rear deck and wing for sale ;-)
pristine off 14000 mile car.
back to regular program.
Class act from OH.
Sounds like this guy got a rise out of everyone good and bad.
Whatever the opinion, the MK1 thread is one of the greats. I like the MK1 aero better than the MK2 because the MK2 is more representative of the US GT3 since we didn't get the MK1 GT3 here.
Friday bump. Any other mk2 Aeros out there? If you own one, post up some pics. There's gotta be more than 4 of us.
For example: Who owns this tasty yellow one now? I see it was FS on RL back in 2007, apparently in N. Cali. Where is it today?
OK....I have a MK1 however the butt shot above reminds me how I take my car for granted sometimes. That picture makes me realize how lucky I am too own a car with an A$$ like that!
It's good to see order and discipline being enforced around here!
excellent work gentlemen.
Regarding how many mkII Aeros were made, I wish I knew. Seems like far fewer than the mkI's though. I believe the factory only offered the XAA option in '03 & '04. Anyone have an '02 order guide to see if it was an option that year?
interesting, I have the aero front bumper and side skirts but no enhanced rears spoiler on my 03 C2. I've never really appreciated how rare/special my 911 might be with those parts. The metallic teal special paint order was always what got the comments at Porsche Corrals and such.
pics later
So..I'm NOT trying to be an a$$, but is a "MKII Aero" a P-Car from the factory or a P-car that had factory parts later installed?..and I was correct with my original comment; The MKII was produced in 2002-2004, but that the MKII Aero was available only in 2003-2004. Again...NOT trying to say the Aero kits later installed with factory parts are any less beautiful than mine, but I'm trying to understand what I really have for the knowledge/history and value of my vehicle... a MKII Aero that was only available in 2003-2004.
So I've done some serious research and here is the deal...the "MKII" 996 was produced from 2002-2004 but the "Aero" was not a factory option in 2002 (and is not on the order guide for that year) It was not until 2003 that it became an actual factory option. The correct option code for the areokit in the 2003 order guide...Option XAA for $7980. The white options sticker located under the front lid (or a vin decoder search from Suncoast Porsche if your sticker is missing) will have option code XAA. So...how many of us out there have true MKII Aero's? 2003-2004 996 with option code XAA? I thinking these are pretty rare?
