It is also highly likely that the additional power i feel is due to my factory cats had come apart and were restricting flow which in turn kills power.

They never even responded until after i had ordered, recoeved and installed the top gear parts.

I just received my TopGear x-pipe 200 cell sport cats, but haven't had them installed yet.

I'm running cat-delete x-pipes with no CEL due to the reflash.

i repeatedly soaked the other bolts with pb blaster and used a cordless impact wrench on all the others.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

So i have a HPDE next weekend. My cat decided it wants to rattle like a rod knock yesterday. Was just gonna order Fabspeed to match the rest of my intake and exhaust but my finger won't let me press the order button....that price is nuts. Any ideas on quality xpipe cats that i could have to florida for a reasonable price by next thursday?
I have the Fabspeed X-pipe. It was years ago when I installed them but I don't remember it taking more than a few days to get to me. Love them and they sound great.
Let me know if interested and I can send you a Youtube link with some sound clips.
I love Fabspeed stuff. I have their Carbon Competition Intake and Maxflow Mufflers. I just dont care for the Porsche Tax applied to their x pipe cats. $2500.00 is a little (more like alot) excessive in my opinion.
Yeah I know the feeling. I think they offered me a discount when I reached out and told them I was a Rennlister. But it still was expensive...Although quite a bargain from the stock cats from Porsche!
Since the stock cats are toast, have you considered just replacing just the cats with 200-cell ones...something like
THIS
? A decent muffler shop should be able to do it for you for a relatively nominal fee. You can get that done by the weekend!
No. As a tech i have seen way too many times when these were installed like crap, don't meet factory specs and set engine lights, or just come apart. I would rather spend the money on a better product. Just don't want to spend stupid Porsche Tax. So far i will most likely order the top gear x pipe with 200 cell cats and if it doesn't come on time i will pull the cat and gut it for now.
Same thing happened to me. I went on a mountain run and when I got to my destination I heard a knock/rattle. I was pretty much crapping my pants, until I realized it went away under throttle and that it was actually the cat that was rattling. Relief... until I found out the stock cats are like $1500 a pop for a used part.. lol. So I went ahead pulled the trigger on the top gear UK 200 cells with larger diameter piping and I haven't looked back. These things are AWESOME, great quality and have turned on the soundtrack for the engine for sure.
Just pull the cats and go straight pipe for the track day. Order the Top Gear cats and be completely satisfied when they get there. I was told that track days, mountain runs etc the cats can overheat and a failing cat that maybe doesn't rattle will just go when that happens.
Good luck and you won't be disappointed with the top gears if you go that route.
Will do!
A little nervous about installing the headers. A little bit of searching shows almost everyone snaps all the bolts off into the block. Sounds like a PIA
I snapped one head bolt (first one i tried to loosen). Luckily it's part of a full rebuild so engine is out and heads are being redone anyway. After breaking the first one with a hand wrench. i repeatedly soaked the other bolts with pb blaster and used a cordless impact wrench on all the others. The took a few seconds of "hammering" without moving and then they all spun right out.
I will be buying the topgear 200 cells as part of my reassembly. Ditto on the feedback once installed, particularly on the headers (lot's of people are happy with their cats). i wasn't planning to replace headers but.... Haven't contacted topgear but they don't give much info on their webiste on what they have done with their design that is supposed to give iimproved air flow. Seems like most things that headers get mixed reviews for cost vs. improvement. My impression is our stock headers are pretty good.
DHL says they are out for delivery today. Plan on taking the car with me to work tomorrow to install the cats. I leave on Friday for the HPDE so i am going to hold off on installing the headers just in case it becomes an issue. I also ordered new gaskets and bolts from Suncoast Porsche but the bolts were on back-order and i won't receive them till next week. I'm sure any power gains or losses would be so minimal i won't be able to tell anyway. I am more interested in no check engine light and a car that sounds awesome.
Arrived and installed. Happy and a little not. They ook really nice. Welds are a thing of beauty. Install was a little bit of a pain in the ***. All my bolts came out like butter. However reinstall was a pain. The headers were drilled incorrectly. All the bolts are close enough except the last bolt on each side closest to the front of the engine (rear of car). I managed to make it happen on the driver side but the passanager side is to far off. My drill bits wont put a scratch in them to elongate the holes. After the HPDE i am going to fix it. Also wasnt impressed witht the fact that the headers and xpipe were the same diameters tubes but not the collector flanges. For some reason they put a larger flange on the x pipe and slot the holes. It seals but just dosent look proper to me. Overall i am happy. Sound is louder and a bit tinny at higher rpms. Will see this weekend
Why no clamps where the x pipe connects to the mufflers? The ones that hang on the rear engine mount...? Had you just not installed them when you snapped the photo? Seems like you wouldn't want to drive it without them...
** Looks good BTW
was extremely well built. had no issue installing the xpipe except the comment i made earlier about the collector flange sizes compared to the headers.
More of a personal preference. It is arguable, but some say it yeilds higher power gains by doing a better job at scavaging.
I will say without a doubt that i believe the HP and TQ gains are minimal if they exsist at all. Do i feel like their is more power on the higher rpm range......yes......is that real......who knows. It is also highly likely that the additional power i feel is due to my factory cats had come apart and were restricting flow which in turn kills power. Upon removal we stuck a borescope in the downstream O2 (which is dead center of the cat) and found the bank 1 cat was in pieces and without a doubt causing a restriction.
side note - scrap metal guys paid me $200.00 for my old cats.
But to answer your question. I think the x pipe versions sound better and look better. All personal preference.
i sure am....just got up here to roebling road race way and unloaded it off the trailer for tomorrow. I think it sounds amazing. I wish my wife was good at taking on track videos......but that is not her strong suit
Small frustrating update.....i am at the race track for my hpde. They sound amazing. Saturday was a good day. On my way to the track this morning and the check engine light came on for P0430 Bank 2 cat inefficency. So much for Top Gears claims that they wont set this code. With the header issues and now this code i am not at all impressed with this product.
Ugh... Bummer! You may need extensions on the sensors - I don't think this is uncommon with aftermarket cats. Maybe Top Gear can help get it straightened out. In the mean time, enjoy the DE!
** Almost forgot to ask, what kind of shoes and what kind of watch are you wearing?

As dporto said, it's not uncommon for a 200 cell cat to trigger a CEL. One solution is an ECU reflash to "disable" the CEL. I'm running cat-delete x-pipes with no CEL due to the reflash. I'm going to change to sport cats as the car is simply too damn loud for the street (sounds great on track, however)
Reset the codes. Car probably noticed dramatically different readings vs. stock and triggered a code. If you reset to a new baseline, maybe won't happen.
Manual car I suppose?
I got also a P0430 P0431 with the topgear big bore 200cell x-pipe.
After I swapped them for the 200cell cross over equivalent no problems, 40.000km ago
Well yes and no. I did add the spacer and the check enging light has not returned. However my "catalyst" monitor in my ECU shows "incomplete". For those who dont understand, the ECU needs a lot of data of a period of time before it can make a determination if its o.k. with what it see's. Now i have put several hundred miles on the car since. But its almost all track mileage which is at wide open throttle which is data the ECU won't take into consideration. I suspect it will be ok. But i cant be positive.
I am happy with my purchase but in hind sight i wouldnt buy from them again. With how far off the header bolt holes were, it shows poor build quality to me. Just my opinion. Not to mention i sent an email about it and got no response from them.
thanks for your feedback!
i am about to replace my cats as well, and wondering if I need to remove bumper and mufflers, or if I can do it without taking the exhaust apart.
thanks
Everyone has their own opinion about this. I can only tell you mine with my specific situation. I work as a mechanic so i have free access to a lift. With that being said, i have had my exhaust out a few times, both my stock exhaust and aftermarket stuff. I have never had the rear bumper off. That being said, i can see where it would be easier to access stuff if you are doing it on jackstands at the house. But it is not at all required to remove the bumper.
I'm not sure that they understand the impact of not responding to this kind of feedback. As a buyer it is disappointing. It appears to me that you are trying to be objective and fair regarding your assessment.
Would you go in a different direction knowing what you know now?
Thank you for the kind words, it is very much appreciated

the cats i have no issue with. I got exactly what i expected. I would never consider purchasing the headers again. The sad part is the price point issues. In order to get something that is perfect you have to buy from someone like fabspeed. I have their mufflers. I am very happy with them. But their price point on x pipes and headers, in my opinion, is nailed with a huge porsche/luxury car tax. While someone people may have stupids amount of cash and are willing to spend too much just because the can, i am not one of them. The price point of the TOP GEAR products is perfect. In truth i believe it was most likely a production issue and what i experienced isnt the norm. But they were quick to respond when it came to ordering, shipping, and recieving. But not once you get the product. Thats what has me irritated.
i will add that this seems to be the norm nowadays. I had first reached out to Fabspeed even before i created this thread. They never even responded until after i had ordered, recoeved and installed the top gear parts. Thats pathetic. I also had the same issue with my coilovers. I ripped a sway bar bracket off of one of the rears (obvious bad weld from factory). I sent an email to the company (i was 2 weeks out of warranty). They did warranty them. But the communication was horrible. And i was in a time crunch as i had a HPDE scheduled for 2 /2 weeks away. They told me there was no way to get them on time as they had to come from overseas. I offered to pay for over night shipping but was still told the lead time is what it is. I had to remove my old one, have it repaired and reinstalled. The gut punch was even though they said there was no way to get it before my hpde, i recieved it in the mail a week prior to my event. Nice of them. But crappy communication.
I personally have had Zero issue with my Top Gear 200 Cell X-pipe and cats. Fitment was great, quality is great. Currently running without any codes for past 6 months. Huge improvement from sound perspective.
I just received my TopGear x-pipe 200 cell sport cats, but haven't had them installed yet. Upon inspection the welds and quality appear good. I was surprised they arrived from the UK in 4 days.
Probably won't get to putting them on until next month. I'll be replacing the-X pipe cat bypass.
