Suggestion

Raising the rev ceiling may yield more power (at the cost of engine longevity) and if the emissions are overly conservative for your particular municipal test criteria, then theres more gain there too.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

16 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

So I need some help determining if my recently purchased 2003 C4S has a Tune or not? It TUBI Style headers and mufflers on it and just now I see it has a short shifter in it so I am wondering if there is a tune already applied. I have a Durametric cable and software that came with it but does anyone know how to tell for sure . Previous owner now deceased so I cant ask

POST 2Original post

It don't have an exact answer for you but, t would be unlikely for a C4S to have a tune. Tuning a normally aspirated engine is just a waste of money as the gains would be insignificant.

yes, really. Forced induction systems can achieve big gains with changes in boost. NA, not so much.

POST 6Original post

The chances are quite high that the car does not have a custom tune on it. There are tunes out there for these cars, but very few people actually have them.

POST 7Original post

I have an Evolution Motorsports tune on my 2002 C4S and it made a noticeable difference. Clearly it didn't impact performance the way it would have in a turbocharged car, but it certainly made a difference. The torque in the mid-range (2,500 - 4,000 RPM) is much better. Whether it's a waste of money or not is really up to the owner of the car. Personally, I don't think it was a waste.

My tune is significantly different than stock. Amazing what extra hp extra feels like

POST 9Original post

Dennis, how did it feel (tune) in Texas vs. here?

POST 12 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks to all for the input, I had to ask as it was a surprise to find the short shifter while cleaning. I have not had her long and did not want to purchase a tune only to find one had been installed already

I had it done here, up at 3Zero3 Motorsports in Wheatridge. I'm hoping to see your new C4S at a Porsche Breakfast Club event soon.

I know where youre coming from - but sometimes there are gains to be had, and sometimes they can be significant. Especially if the factory mapping was poor in the first place and there is significant production variation from engine to engine. Raising the rev ceiling may yield more power (at the cost of engine longevity) and if the emissions are overly conservative for your particular municipal test criteria, then theres more gain there too. Of course, neither of these conditions really apply to a C4S as it is mapped extremely well from the factory and there is little production variation from engine to engine.
