Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Looking to spice up the rear of my '03 and cant decide between a GT2 or GT3 tail. I've seen prices all over the map from @$650-$1,650. I have also seen tails that come as inserts that fit where the original spoiler fits as well as complete units. Would much rather not spent a huge amount but also want to know do these tails come with the provisions to mount the fan and air ducts, etc?
What you guys recommend? or anybody got one for sale?
Ma Shaw, Misha, or Precision Porsche. They may cost a bit more up front but you will save body shop costs on the tail end in prepping and fitting. The generic eBay units are almost all wavy and will require pinholes to be sanded and the whole thing block sanded for a good finish.
Unless your doing over 100mph cornering you have no use for a tail. In my opinion they look completely stupid,
"Look at me buying groceries in my Porsche with the big tail, aren't I special"
If you're going to add a rear wing, then you should consider adding some kind of aero treatment to the front bumper and perhaps the sides. The car might look a little bit out of balance if you only add a rear wing.
I work at a body shop so the flaws don't bother me too much and the painting is free, but this is the first of 12 911's I've owned that doesn't have some sort of tail on it and frankly it is the one area of the car that bothers me. (now that I've smoked the headlights. lol ! ) And yes I am planning on adding a front lip as well to balance it out. From what I've seen, I think the GT 3 tail will probably look the best as its not too overbearing like the GT2 tail is.
I have had 3 Misha wings and one for the CAB is here and awaiting paint. I agree with Dennis you need to do front and back. It will not look right.
See pictures below. I can't find the side shot of the finished product at the moment but I have it somewhere.
And "Soar" I guess I am special ;P
I bent my girlfriend over the taco spoiler on my '99 Friday night after we came home from a night on the town.
It was the best use of the spoiler I've ever had. And kinda fitting too...
GT2 tail only looks good WB cars, IMHO.
Porsche does a lot of R&D on how the car works with aero balance. They strongly recommend adding a front spoiler when adding a rear.
At the very least, add a front lip from GT3Tek.
The other thing to consider is resale value: if you have the bodywork skills, a full aero kit that replicates the correct factory one for the year car that you have may actually add value. If the car looks too Kustomized, you may limit your market when you want to sell.
You can find full areokit replicas from vis, duraflex, bbi, etc. It looks like precisionporsche makes good stuff too from what I've seen. Resist the temptation to partially update to a later 996 or 997 look. This never looks right.
Finally, if you want to track the car, make sure the wing is adjustable. Some of the aftermarket ones aren't.
The Misha is designed properly and has perfect fitment. The air intake holes are matched to OEM spec. If you do plan on DE's you will need a front splitter with this spoiler. This is because it does serve its aerodynamic purpose very well.
Taco wings really look good on these cars. I have a slightly damaged wing without the middle fin. I'm sure a body shop could repair it. I would sell for cheap.
Yes I know about adding the front spoiler to match as well. I had sourced a real GT3 bumper, but it looks like it might fall through, so I will definitely go the route of a GT3Tek style or such. I also have the rockers which are in the paint shop as we speak so it should balance out better once I get all those pieces put on.
