Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Also, as a check, I used the tow hook that came in the kit and it threaded perfectly fine.
Leading evidence: 'Use tow hook' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check i' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

So what's wrong with using the tow hook in the factory tool kit?
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hey all,
I recently picked up a 996TT a few months back -- hands down my favorite car out of the 25 that I've owned.
I wanted to install a tow hook for appearance and protection from bumper back ups here in SF and I've ordered 3 now. NONE are fitting in.
The first 2 I thought were because they were not Rennline, the third is Rennline.
I've tried to thread these b@stards in and all they do is eat the threads on the towhook. It'll catch for a second, turn a 1/4 turn, then fall immediately back out with a few shavings of metal.
Am I doing something wrong? Did anyone else have this problem? Tow hooks are seriously the easiest thing you can do, so I don't know why this would be such an issue...
Also, as a check, I used the tow hook that came in the kit and it threaded perfectly fine.
Advice? Tips?
What I meant was the knuckle thread is interesting bcoz its best feature is keeping out dirt & grime. But it's a rare thread.
But your 3 purchased hooks should've worked. I'd just call the vendor. Or if they don't answer, count the thread (per inch) as a start.
Ahh okay Gator, there we go.
It's not a knuckle thread. The Rennline one will almost certainly fit. Problem tends to be the bumper cover slightly obstructing the threaded hole on the car's frame, preventing you from getting it EXACTLY aligned and then rotating. Before trying to screw it in -- and further damaging the threads -- take care to align the two threaded pieces perfectly. Then slowly screw backwards until it pushes in slightly. Then slowly screw the hook clockwise while making sure it's actually going in vs. just spinning/stripping. Afterwards, throw the other two hooks out -- they're almost certainly the wrong size (did they claim to be compatible w/ Porsche? Car mfrs use different sizes).
Just a quick look at your history posts, quick like page, page, page, titles only.
I try to do that so I don't say the wrong thing to the right person, if you know what I mean.
I want to watch more 996 track videos now. Your vid opened my eyes to what my car can do.
That's awesome - glad you were inspired. Get yours on the track and I'll bet you get hooked. It's a slippery slope but it's really fun and rewarding. Check with your local PCA.
