So I manually adjusted back a couple of threads to center it.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I'm trying to find the shifter alignment tool for a 2001 Boxster. Everywhere I look, I find traces that they once existed but are discontinued everywhere. The part number is 000 721 961 90
I can find plenty of the ones for newer cars, but not the 2004 and older Boxsters.
Any suggestions? Will the 000 721 961 91 work on the older cars?
Haha, yeah, I used to live in Westminster back in the late 80's and got a lot of attention for my name... but no, I live in Utah these days. I'd be glad to pay the shipping if you were willing to let me borrow it. I know that is a hassle, so no worries if you'd rather not.
According to Loren on RennTech, the 997 tool will work on the standard 996 shifters. For about $4, might be worth a try. Pelican Parts and Sunset Porsche have them.

Yes, it will work as a starting point. But pay attention to how many threads you move the cables. I needed to adjust mine twice. once with the tool and then a fine tuning. I had a problem with 3rd gear. If I tried to shift quickly, it would sometimes not engage. It always worked if I took the time to let it settle in. When I used the tool, the problem went away for 3rd gear but 2nd gear started showing the same problem. So I manually adjusted back a couple of threads to center it.
Before adjustment, lazy 3rd gear engagement
After adjustment, fixed lazy 3rd, but created lazy 2nd gear.
Good luck!!
