I think the PO used a bit less on the fronts than I.

If you're not hydroplaning, not on the wear bars, and not having any significant issues there's no reason to replace the fronts.

The guy at Discount told me I would be fine with the front, but I might have a bit more roll while changing lanes and such.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi all I need new tires. I'm going to stick with Pilot Super Sports (was really considering Pilot Cup 2's, but decided against that as it is a DD) anyways I need some advice on the fronts. Fronts are 2 years old (about 20,000 miles on them) and the wear bars are at 6 out of 10, per Discount Tire, a bit of outer shoulder wear is showing, more-so than the center. The rears are SHOT with about 11k miles and I bought them last year. The guy at Discount told me I would be fine with the front, but I might have a bit more roll while changing lanes and such. My question is, would you replace all 4 tires or just the rears and get new fronts and rears next May/June when I'm sure I'll need new rears. Pricing for just rears $570 installed (potentially about $75 back due to the warranty). Fronts $372 installed so total $1069 (If they come in time and I pay next week, I also get $70 rebate for a set of 4) so if I get all 4 and Michelin does discount due to the warranty I'm about $925 out the door.

POST 2Original post

Glad you found some. I was tire shopping a few weeks ago and PSS's had been on back order since February. I always go with 4 new tires, but that's just me. The rears definitely wear faster on these cars, although you are lucky to get 20k miles on your fronts and still have lots of life left.

POST 3Original post

Hmm, Mine seem to be wearing pretty even. Proper air pressure ???? drive sorta normal mostly.

POST 4Original post

I generally use two sets of rear tires for every set of front tires. If this bothers you, you can dial back the camber on the rears to help make them last a little longer. My rear camber is more aggressive than stock, so I chew through rear tires a bit more quickly than most.

POST 5Original post

If you're not hydroplaning, not on the wear bars, and not having any significant issues there's no reason to replace the fronts. The set of MPSS I had wore consistent with others- on stock alignment the rears were toast and the fronts had about 10k normal miles left on them.

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Joe I run about 32 in the front and 38 or so cold in the rear. I think the PO used a bit less on the fronts than I. I check it about 1 time a month. Yeah I don't have much issue with the front and was impressed with the wear of the fronts, with the amount of mileage they have. The rears wore evenly, for the most part, just quickly worn...but my suspension is aggressive and fun. I think since there is plenty of tread left on the fronts, I'll just do the rears.
