Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Normal according to owner's manual page 24: Unlocking the vehicle by using the key in the door lock and opening the door may activate the alarm system within 10 seconds.

POST 3Original post

Stick the key in the ignition sooner. That's why it's on the left side, so you can jab it in ASAP and prevent the alarm from going off.

I have been experiencing this also since my key fob is just flat worn out after 180k miles, and I think the board may be shot. What I discovered is kinda cool, and not sure if it is a coincidence, or just one more cool inside joke at Porsche. When locking the door with the key (blade) have the shield on the key facing the front, as you turn it clockwise to lock it will end up facing up. Now to unlock the car, have the shield facing to the back of the car, so turning the lock counterclockwise to unlock it will have the shield again facing up so you can see it. I have tried this every time now with no alarm sounding and it unlocks all the doors, frunk..etc. Trying to unlock the car with the shield facing forward and ending up facing down sounds the alarm right away and I then immediately lock and unlock the door again, but until I put the key in the ignition, or manually push the unlock button on the center console, it only unlocks the driver door. YMMV.. my car is a 3/98 C2

Yah, I had skimmed through the manual to fast and misunderstood what I had read. Interesting about the orientation of the shield.

After unlocking with the key blade, press the RC button once to turn off the alarm. /X3
