And those Acme thread bolts/rods Last time I checked they were over $200 😳 (I had to replace a set - but AGA did it under warranty).

If youre still renting out the AGA transmission mount tool, then I would like to rent it to replace the bushing in my 99 996.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Not a small job and unless you have free labour, definitely not worth it, but once done and debugged, it worked effortlessly.
Greetings,
The time has come to replace the 22+ year old transmission mount in my '99. I prefer not to drop the tranny. I know there was a member who would rent out the transmission mount tool in the past (AGA, $299 new) but I believe they have since stopped doing this.
Does anyone have a tool they would be willing to rent to me? If so, please PM.
Thanks in advance,
Majicb
I’m looking to tackle this project this winter as well. Can I get on the list? I’ve got my trans dropped, the old mount out, and a new mount in hand so I’m all set for a turn time measured in minutes.
I can vouch for this. dporto was very helpful in trying to rent me his tool, but alas getting it across the border to Canada made it impractical. So, enter a good friend who is a machinist and made one up for me. Not a small job and unless you have free labour, definitely not worth it, but once done and debugged, it worked effortlessly. With a proper tool, 30 min job, no stress, pounding or damage.
I would like to get on some list as well, I plan to take the trans out in about 6 weeks. I have a 1999 C4 convertible. I this a tool that I will need to put in a new mount? New to Porsche so I don't know the variety of differences between 996.1 and 996.2

Tool is needed to both push out the old mount as well as install the new one. Get on the list behind me and get it done!
I have the transmission out of my 99 C4 . I am removing the transmission mounting bracket to clean and repaint . If my transmission rubber mount is bad and I assume it will be I will replace . Can anyone show a pic of the install tool ? Can a pipe clamp be used instead of the tool ?
My plan would be to cut out the old . Then clean/sand the interior of the mount hole . Place new rubber mount in the freezer for 24 hours . Use a heat gun to heat up the mounting hole/area . Press in new mount . As long as the new insert stays straight to the bore it should slide in correct ?
I charge $70 for a 1 week rental plus shipping both ways (usually $25 each was including insurance). Thats a total of $120 for the rental when you include shipping.
Does anyone happen to have the torque specs for this? Having a heck of a time finding a reliable post anywhere about it. Most of what I'm seeing is for the removable carrier style. Looks like the upper carrier bolts (which are 15mm M10s) are 48ft/lb as are the forward carrier bolts. The two trans mount bolts are 63 ft/lb?
Looks like the transmission bolts(M10x110) are 48 ft-lb.
The stud/nut that are on the other end(m10 x83) are also 48 ft-lb.
The book above has any torque value you will need on a 996 along with diagrams.
I have both the 996 & the 997 books.
My 996 book is very dirty and worn and has a bunch of tabs and other notes.
Well worth the money!
Thank you
@TexSquirrel
! Job done. Kind of a whip pressing old mount out and putting new mount in, especially with my short ratcheting wrenches but sure beats paying the indie to do it. I used the yellow inserts and honestly cannot detect any additional NVH. My two cents is if you're needing a new mount, to just throw those in and "maybe" buy a little better feel and/or mount life.
@dporto
Tool coming back to you today! Thank you again
If youre still renting out the AGA transmission mount tool, then I would like to rent it to replace the bushing in my 99 996. If you dont mind sending me a PM, we can sort out the details (I dont want to post my details in a public forum).
Thanks
Ah ok. I thought you said borrow in the first post. Its out at the moment, but Ill pm you with the info. As soon as I get it back I can send it to you.
Well I am now ready to install the transmission Mount and need the tool. Either rent or own. Please Private Message and we can settle on the details.
Thanks Bill
