Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

It took a LOT of time sanding and carefully inspecting the piece I worked on and still ended up messing it up.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I've got some hairline cracks in the carbon clearcoat on my dash "horseshoe" and was wondering if anyone else has encountered something similar and if they've had any success in fixing it? I've seen several videos on fixing carbon panels, but they are all much larger body panels so not sure if that's the best option for this. Here's where the cracks are on mine (not mine in the picture). It looks like they probably happened when someone attempted to remove the panel.
The resins Porsche used for these carbon trims were early blends. They tend to get affected adversely by UV, and heat cycling (expand and contract). Most of the resins in the carbon on these old cars has failed. They distort, discolor, and crack. The underlying carbon cloth is still fine. You can restore the carbon with more modern resins. Marine, and aerospace resins are commonly used for this type of effort. There was a DIY on sixspeedonline some time ago. Maybe try searching on there?
I tried fixing the cracks in the door panel on mine. It went mostly ok, but ended up still sanding through and touching the fabric in one spot. In another, the way the new resin dried, the CF looks distorted. I ended up ordering new panels from Carbonlutions or something like that. They kept giving excuses on delays until I said just cancel the order and miraculously the order went out right away. It took a LOT of time sanding and carefully inspecting the piece I worked on and still ended up messing it up. If it was a front lip or something that isn't right in your face like an interior piece, it would have been fine, but for me, I know it would have bothered me.
Thanks! I've done some searching and can't seem to find that post on 6Speed. Do you know if they just sanded the part, put on the new resin and then polished it out?
