Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have recently acquired my first 911, back in November as an early 21st birthday gift to myself. Its a 2004 C4S in arctic silver, and it came with a handful of modifications. My main question is help with the option identification and the spoiler! It came with a spoiler on it; modified to be in a fixed-only position instead of retracting and extending. My best understanding has been that it was a factory optioned spoiler, but I am not so sure anymore due to some questions from those in the community. After snooping on some threads I see that it might be a turbo wing, but I still retain the reflector across the back which apparently you lose with the turbo style deck lid. Please advise, and thank you.

POST 2Original post

Run your vin # through vinanalytics.com and it will show you the factory options. Report back.

Cool tool, thanks for the suggestion. I dont see anything about the spoiler on there. Here is the report:

When I was 21 I was driving a 1966 VW beetle with rust holes you could see through. I'll let the real 996 wizards help with the wing ID.

POST 6Original post

Beautiful 4s. Others will identify the spoiler but it looks great. Please post a photo from directly behind the car. Show us those hips along with the spoiler!

POST 7Original post

That is an aftermarket deck lid or perhaps a one-off. The Turbo deck lid has a differently shaped 3-rd brake light. It looks really good. If it uses Turbo style hydraulic spoiler actuation you can look up rennkit.com to find electrically operated spoiler rams.

POST 8Original post

Yeah, definitely not a stock wing. But let me help you out. Seeing how you want to get close to stock, take that thing off and send it to me. I can send along an arctic silver stock C4S lid with wing. You'll feel much better having the right look and the other folks here won't tease you any longer. Failing that, look for a part number or manufacturer stamp on that wing so we are all armed with the info on who made that thing.

Great eye, yes I notice now that the third brake light is different. I appreciate you saying it looks good, I think it suits the car and I love that it keeps the reflector strip across the back.

Funny! will check after work for any stamping etc. looks completely blank from outside no logo or anything else.

POST 12Original post

Does the stock 3rd taillight still work, along with the light on the "turbo" look wing? Also love the rear wiper!

POST 13Original post

nice 4S! Where in NC are you? Raleigh here...

POST 14Original post

Looks like a Getty Design Turbo Style spoiler to me. https://gettydesign.com/996tailbases...-and-spoilers/ its a few down on the list. Nice looking car and nice NSXs too!

yes, lights and actuator all functional. Thank you about the rear wiper, its seemingly a rare option.

I thought so but mine has the reflector strip built into it, the Getty does not.

That's because the pics are the Carrera version, They also made a C4S version. If you look at the "Sales Items" section at the very top of that link they have since been discontinued and they have a single one left. I am pretty sure this what you have. I suppose it could be the Mashaw one too. See the middle of the page. https://mashaw.com/html/product_info.html
