The clips they come with are kind of cheesy, I installed some snaps in a couple of places to hold them in a little better.

I think the fronts were quoted at $2'200 and $500 more for the backs.the fronts are basically total rebuilds, new foam, I have to replace the base on one and I am having the mesh supports reinforced.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I was in the market for a toy or project car and a friend suggested I but his 996, I wasn't really interested, but who turns down the chance to drive a 911. About three minutes in, or when I got to the expressway onramp, I knew what I was going to buy. His had a automatic transmission, and the paddle shifters were fun, but not really my thing. I am the guy that special orders his econobox daily driver with a six speed, because the car shouldn't have all the fun. I started my research, I took my total budget subtracted the cost of upgrades and likely repairs and started shopping. It took about two months to find the right car in the right condition at the right price. I ended up with a 2001 C4 Cab, that had about 3k in deferred maintenance, and could best be described as cosmetically challenged. She had about 76,500 miles on her when I picked her up and 500 more by the time she got home. That was back in September, since then the maintenance has been brought up to date, new brakes, new tires, I have cleaned radiators, all the "drains", replaced all the broken plastic broken bits inside and out. all the interior lighting has been swapped to LEDs repainted the car and added 3k to the clock. The first of next month she goes in for new upholstery and then I think I am done until fall. The first pic I took last week, the second was right after she came home. First polish after new paint first picture after bringing her home

POST 3Original post

A Rennlister in Shelley? Never would have thought that would happen. Welcome! Your experience sounds like mine. Deferred maintenance, new parts, plastic bits, etc etc. Out of curiosity, what are you having re-upholstered? I need to get my front and rear seats done. What are you using for material?

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 16608575

Nikita at Sew Perfect in IF. I am doing front and rear seats now, rebuilding the foam and using all leather. all the other quotes I got involved ordering a seat kit and installing it. They were more money and only 50% leather, and I would still have to order foam. I thought about ordering the kits and doing it myself, but I was afraid it would look like I did it. She started her quote with "it looks like it will take one and a half hides" and I was pretty much sold right there. I am switching to red stitching and making a few minor changes to the design.

POST 5Original post

Welcome !! How much did the new paint set you back? Looks good BTW

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 16609116

The total job was $7,900.00 but that includes new front bumper skin and I replaced one of the lights with a nicer used part and some plastic bits. If it was just paint alone I think it would be around $5,500.00. The paint shop that did the work has done some other cars for me, and I probably paid a premium, but at the same time I let it cure for four months before the first polish and was still able to go back and have a couple of spots fixed no problem.

POST 8Original post

Looks great! Kudos on stepping up and having it repainted, amongst other things. So nice when these cars are brought back to their best.

POST 10Original post

Quotes source post: 16608624

Mind telling me how much you paid to have the seats redone? You can PM me if you like.

POST 11Original post

Love it. A new paint job is definitely on my 5 year plan! So worth it!

POST 13 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Seats are In! The leather hides were stuck in the midwest for a couple weeks, so we were a little delayed, but I think it was worth the wait.

POST 15Original post

Nice. I was looking to see what Diamond Mats would look like in the 996. How do you like those? Are they slippery?

POST 16Original post

The diamond stitching looks fantastic, personal opinion, would have been perfect less the crests on the seats. Regardless, very well done and has great flow!

POST 17Original post

Quotes source post: 16764726

The seats came out nice! Not really my cup of tea either. Maybe if they were smaller or just the crests with no color. All that matters though is if the OP likes 'em.

POST 18 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

This is as good as I have right now, I will snap some more after the weekend.

POST 19 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 16764449

They are not slippery at all, but they do show every spec of dust you bring in on your shoes. The clips they come with are kind of cheesy, I installed some snaps in a couple of places to hold them in a little better.

POST 20 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 16764726

I am not sold on them yet either, but they are growing on me. the first set was smaller and they didn't work at all, Changing them involves taking the seat apart so I thought I would give it a little time. One though was to do an outline of the logo in red stitching, it would be much more subtle. worst case these will make cool throw pillows for the couch.

POST 21Original post

Are the crests embroidered? Kind of tough to tell if I like them or not. They seem a bit big, but small jacket patch sized would look bad. (Dont take that personal! Lots of people hate the look of my car. Lots like it.) I really like the seat stitching!

POST 22 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 16765180

Yes they are embroidered, on their own the detail is amazing. they used the hood crest as the model to work from.

POST 23Original post

wow. love the can-do attitude some folks have.
