Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I just replaced front and rear pads (Akebono) and rotors on two of my 996's and everything fit just fine,

If you are using the 'newer' pads with the ears and counter weights, you will need the longer spring clips that fit into the slots on the ends of the backing plate as shown by SoCal99t above.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Anyone installed the 'new' design front brake pads for their 996? Backing plates are different and the original retaining spring clip doesn't appear to work. Is there a new spring clip that accommodates these asymmetrical backing plates?
Thanks in advance.
What brand are those? Also, i don't see the holes for the brake pad wear sensors?

Are you certain the springs can't be installed?
My original Textar, short lived Brembo, and now Akebono pads look the same and the springs work(ed) with them.
Thanks for the input folks. There must be different sized spring clips and I've got some of the shorter ones - no way they can stretch to the slots at the ends of the backing plates. I ordered a set of new OEM clips and will see if those are long enough the job done.
OK, 996 front caliper mystery solved. There are (2) clip lengths that work with front pads for these Brembo calipers. The shorter one is only suitable for pads without the 'ears' and counter weights (e.g. Pagid race pads use these backplates). This is what I had on the car when I started rebuilding the brakes. If you are using the 'newer' pads with the ears and counter weights, you will need the longer spring clips that fit into the slots on the ends of the backing plate as shown by SoCal99t above. Porsche kit containing these longer clips is 996-351-959-01-OEM.
Thanks for the help.
(Full disclosure - these calipers are an upgrade on my 1999 BMW E36 M3 track car.)
Different spring clips for the 996 front caliper - which one depends on the brake pad you choose.
