Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

While Im changing the Starter should I address anything else?
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hey all, new to the thread.
just recently purchased my 2001 Carrera 4. Tiptronic. Has 132K miles. I was told it needed a Starter from the previous owner, got a killer deal. So before I call a euro mechanic to come over I wanted some insight. Heres what its doing,
Just purchased a brand new battery, turn the key in ignition all lights come up as it should, but when I try to start it I just hear a wind vacuum sound. Not so much crank.. Fuel pump sounds like its coming on so I dont think its that. Could it be the starter?; Also when I just tried to start it again after unplugging a few fuses then plugging them back in, I heard the same spinning vacuum sound. Havent checked immobilizer, but key fob works and alarm and locks.. Ive been lurking on the form for a while so this is all I know what to look for. Insight please!
EDIT: Ive included a video of whats it doing.
Sounds like the starter bendex is not pushing out but the motor is spinning. Just buy a starter and put it in. Be careful of some of the plastic parts that are in the way. They will be brittle.
This part always breaks and u should have it on hand to replace. Its on the back of the motor to the left of the ps pump. U will also be near the vacuum lines. U can get the rigid plasic line from the dealer in 1 meter lengths. 2 lengths replaced everything on my car. My car has 200k plus miles so i did evertthing i could reach. Including all the rad hoses, rubber vac lines, alt, starter, oil cooler and a few other things. Yours may not need so much. U will only have to pry out the tb and cross over tubes to get to the starter, on mine i pulled the intakes. See pics.

Maybe the starter/alternator Y-cable? I bought one as a 'while you're in there' item based on what I've read here about them being a known wear item that can cause starting issues.
