Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Symptoms are that when running A/C with any heat added, I get a fog that smells like a rock band fogging machine. When I run it full cold, I do not get that. I've posted before and deduced I have a leaking heater core and that when the system calls for any heat to blend the cold air up to temp, the system is engaged, causing the fog. I plan to replace the core. However, I've also noticed that my passenger floor is wet with engine coolant. IS this still consistent with a leaking heater core? From the images I've seen on the internet, it is, but I haven't pulled the thing apart yet. Anyone made this repair, or experienced these same symptoms? I am planning on ordering parts and beginning work this week. I have a spare car, but if there are some pitfalls or issues to be aware of, I'd like to know before I get the thing apart. I do not have access to a lift, although I could get it up on floor jacks, that is not really ideal since the car is sitting outside in my driveway. Thanks in advance. JKC

POST 2Original post

Sounds like you are on the right track. http://www.renntech.org/forums/topic...val-996-99-c2/

POST 3Original post

If the core is leaking, you could definitely wind up with coolant iin the cabin. It's the ONlY reason I can envision coolant where you describe it... The front passenger footwell, right? Coolant has no business there otherwise.

POST 4Original post

I would say that with the coolant in the footwell that you have a bad heater core or connector. Every time I've encountered a situation like this it was the heater core and never a connector though.

POST 5Original post

If you are sure it is coolant then yes, it is the core. If it is water on the floor, check the drains....

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

It's coolant. Slippery, but I didn't taste it!
