Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 2Original post

Its funny how ANY trip to the dealer for a repair hits a minimum of $1,000...

POST 3Original post

31 dollars in parts, and 900 dollars in labor...I would have saved myself 900 dollars on this job.

POST 4Original post

Book time on the plug change is 2.0 hours. Book time on the CV boots is 5.6 to do all 4, 4.6 to do one on each side. So it would appear they may have made up around half of the parts margin on the labour side of things (based on full retail on the parts here). They also seem to charge 2 different labour rates if I read that correctly.

POST 5Original post

I've been using The Auto Gallery dealership in Woodland Hills California to sort out my 2003 C2 during its first month as my car. The service contract I bought included a full inspection of the car. In addition to that I had them give the car a filter and oil change, a new serpintine belt, new spark plugs and a flush of the brake system. Not counting the service contract, I spent about $1500 to fill in all the blanks in the car's history. The service manager also spent a half hour with me going over all their records on the car during the time that the second owner had them service it, and he gave me a print out of those records. Those who like to work on their cars will save lots of money. Those who go to indie shops will save some as well. In time I will be using an indie shop for some future work. However looking at the overhead of a Porsche Dealership it is obvious to me what the high labor rates are also paying for...and I don't begrudge them that. It is called the price of doing business and paying the rent and the saleries and the benefits and the phone bills and the property taxes and the various insurances they have to carry, etc.
