Not a bad trip home...100.1 miles from the petrol station at Nurburg to my house...but hitting the Hare 50 miles from home wasn't too goot...neither is the bill for 2500 or so to replace the front end plastics!

I was running 2.4 bar F and 2.5 bar R on the standard road Michelin Pilots - and brilliant they were too!
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I thought some of you may like to see a few photos of our trip to the old circuit at Reims and a few days at the Nurburgring.
We headed off from Scotland in a two Rennlist member convoy of 911s...my C4S and a friends 964 C4...
From the ferry:
Through France:
To Reims...and the old circuit:
Had a look around Manthey Racing, just outside the Nurburgring:
Then onto the Nurburgring for 4 days of fun.
Our cars:
My C4S behaved superbly, with the X73 suspension option perfectly at home on the track...the PSE sounding superb all day long...
I even took 30 seconds off my best lap time by reducing the tyre pressures to those suggested by a friendly local with a Manthey prepared GT3.
I was running 2.4 bar F and 2.5 bar R on the standard road Michelin Pilots - and brilliant they were too!
The 964 couldn't have been more of a change from the C4S...less planted, more fussy, harder work...but great fun.
Sadly, the rear pads wore out on the 964...but another friendly local soon had Ring Racing lined up to supply and fit replacements...what a place, what a great atmosphere...and what a collection of enthusiasts.
Very nice pics. Must be nice to get to the ring with your own vehicle.
You didn't happen to see the Blue Corvette 2006 C6Z06 there by any chance. Rumor has that it was just there and completed the ring in 7m40s. I've never driven the ring before but that sounds like a pretty good time.

Great post. I got the weirdest deja vu looking at the pics of your Speed Yellow C4S from Reims and then it dawned on me... in the June GT Purely Porsche there was a spread on a Speed Yellow 996 C4S travelling to amongst other places, Reims!
Here is a pic of their SY C4S in front of the same funky structure as your car - different wheels however!!!
Hi. I had one the best seats in the house - watching that big yellow rear and listening to that exhaust for a thousand miles.
I had the priviledge (sp?) of a drive round the ring in the C4S, too, which confirmed to me what they have been doing at Stuttgart for the past 15 years - making a great car ever better.
Cheers big chap! Hope you had a good drive back up Blighty..
Can't wait, will be at the Ring for the annual trip between 24-26 July with my father and mom in a 993, uncle and aunt in a Boxster and myself and my wife in a rental Z4. Also meeting up with the Porsche Club Saudi Arabia which are bringing their own cars, which some are pretty sick 750bhp turbos etc.
Ciao,
Johannes E.
Well spotted that man!
I wondered if anyone had spotted the picture in GT...
We had the mag in the car, and tried to get the same photo...unfortunately for us, we had to head off and find a hotel for the night as we were booked on the Porsche Factory Tour the next day...otherwise we were going to try and replicate the photo at dusk.
The structure behind is the remains of the old leaderboard.
What a great trip...
Glad you enjoyed it...
Again, glad you enjoyed it...I'll get the photos taken from your 964 put up soon...
No problem...

And to think...we watched that spoiler for 2700 miles...and were so careful round the track...ah well, never mind...
And I thought it was some cosmic coincidence - pretty cool!
I was wondering if that was a leaderboard.
I hope that I get the opportunity to do some travelling in my C4S - but since the car will not even be built until Fall,...I'll just settle for other peep's pics for now.
Very cool pics! I'm heading to the Nurburgring in August with the BMW club to do a 3 day driver's ed event. We'll have a 3-series or Audi A4 to drive, so nothing quite as exciting, but that track seems scarey! Low HP is fine for me!!!
Darren,
Low HP reminds me of the time I was at the Ring in a bone stock rented Audi TT Roadster and half way I caught up with a monster Mitsubishi Evo that was heavily modified, stayed behind and waited for a while but started to get a bit inpatient and flashed the high beams a couple of times until he moved over. Got back to the car park, parked and was getting out of the car when a guy walked up and said he was the driver of the Evo and he asked what modifications I had done to the car. I just held up the car rental company key chain tag and dangled it. He shook his head turned 180 degrees and walked away. I have done roughly 200 laps which helps!
Ciao,

I met a few of the Scottish lads, on the Saturday morning, not sure if you were amongst them. I was there with my red 951.
Just got in the door after a few more early morning laps and a few really interesting wet laps last night.
Ed
Try as hard as you can to get a 320d hire car. It is so much better to drive than the Audi.
I rode in the back of one this morning, drove a lap myself, and had some very interesting dices with it last night and this morning. The car had an automatic, but I could not lose it with my 951, and could not stay near it in the wet.. It is perhaps the best handling saloon in the world! I was absolutely astonished at its poise on the 'ring. I'm not sure if the rental fleets offer a manual gearbox 320d, but that would be a fantastic car.
Great photos Ess_Three. Thanks for sharing.
Are your number plates real or did you have them custom made (i.e. they are not official plates)? I have never seen the
nnn ccc
format before. I think it is fascinating how a whole industry has spawned in the UK for buying and selling number plates since it is so easy to get personalized/vanity plates here in the US.
Cheers,
The number plates are 'real'...but may be slightly ammended!
They may appear to show 911 GRS...but it's amazing what a strategically placed screw cover can do to B11 GRS!
Not strictly legal...I have to admit...but looks like B11 up close...and 911 from a distance away, so I'll leave them until I get my collar felt by the law.
It is possible to get 911 GRS here in the UK...but it would cost plenty.
Hi Hammerwerfer - I met you early Saturday morning (grey 964), and meant to catch up again to ask how the new 951 was going..but I had to unexpectedly go and source some brake pads after some uneven wear caught me out, and missed most of the afternoon...
Good to meet you - You seemed to take in plenty of laps, so I assume the car goes well!
G - sorry to hear about the Hare. 50 miles from home? Ahh, the irony..
