Just curious, what about using a standard floor jack with proper Transmission holder ?

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

9 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

  • Rennlist: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 1 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Just finished putting back the tranny on my 99 996 and all I can say is holy mother of Jesus!! that thing is a beast! It weights a ton, probably 100 lbs or more??? It took me 2 hours to align it properly while having the engine on the car.. I mean I have worked on cars before but this was a challenge.. At one time, I was so pissed that I had to walk away, I think I lost one year of my life there... Does anyone have any tips on this? I will probably drop the engine with tranny next time.

POST 2Original post

I find the 996 Carrera to be one of the easiest I’ve done. An e36 transmission is significantly harder, a 944/928 is more so still, and we’re not even getting to something like an Audi S4...

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Well dropping it was easy, i guess my problem was that i did not raise the car enough and had to work in a tight area.

POST 4Original post

It's a bitch to get the input shaft to slide in. Lots of trial/error. It took me about 6 hours and i had to walk away twice and watch tv to settle down. But i eventually got it lined up right and it slid together.

POST 6Original post

Yep, it was a super pain! I did mine on my back and it took about 2 hours probably. Oh the frustration!

POST 7Original post

Just curious, what about using a standard floor jack with proper Transmission holder ? You guys are talking about bench pressing the tranny lying on your back, right?

In all fairness to the transmission, there is a rear drive in there as well
