Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

There must be a clutch on the mechanism to keep the motor from stripping/burning in situations like yours when it keeps running unexpectedly or is impeded.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

And help me troubleshoot. My sunshade is stuck retracting. I opened the top today, hit the switch to retract the sunshade and then heard a weird rhythmic clunk noise. At first I thought the latch for the hatch was cycling but I traced it to the sunshade. It is all the way open and keeps trying to open more. The shade won't close/come forward, it just stays all the way back and keeps going. Clunk.....clunk....clunk Ideas? Obvious candidates are disconnect battery and then reconnect and see if that fixes it, followed by the dreaded ignition switch replacement. Maybe the switch itself is bad. Or....?

POST 2Original post

I'm assuming there is a limit switch that detects when the shade is completely open; what you're describing sounds like that switch is busted or disconnected, so the motor keeps trying to open it more. There must be a clutch on the mechanism to keep the motor from stripping/burning in situations like yours when it keeps running unexpectedly or is impeded. Anyway, I don't have a Targa so I can't go look and see what kind of access you have to the area where the shade retracts, but it might be worth taking a look to see if there's an obvious culprit in that area. You might want to root around here and see if you can find the procedure for replacing that switch. I think I was very near the right part of the manual, but I don't have the time to mess around right now... http://workshop-manuals.com/porsche/...res/page_5452/ Check the other "Service and repair procedures" in the targa top area to see if your issue is discussed...even if it isn't, the diagrams may be enough for you to find the culprit...like this one:
